🔸Jane Austen  (/ˈɒstɪn, ˈɔːs-/; 16 December 1775 – 18 July 1817) was an English novelist known primarily for her six major novels, which interpret, critique, and comment upon the British landed gentry at the end of the 18th century. Austen's plots often explore the dependence of women on marriage in the pursuit of favourable social standing and economic security. Her works critique the novels of sensibility of the second half of the 18th century and are part of the transition to 19th-century literary realism. Her use of biting irony, along with her realism and social commentary, have earned her acclaim among critics and scholars.

🔸جین آستن، (۱۶ دسامبر ۱۷۷۵ – ۱۸ ژوئیهٔ ۱۸۱۷) نویسنده قرن هجدهم و نوزدهم انگلیسی است که آثارش ادبیات غرب را سخت تحت تأثیر قرار داد. شناخت او از زندگی زنان و مهارتش در گوشه و کنایه‌ها، او را به یکی از مشهورترین رمان‌نویسان عصر خودش تبدیل کرده‌است.

▫️جین آستن با نگارش چهار رمان عقل و احساس، غرور و تعصب، منسفیلد پارک و اما به ترتیب در سال‌های ۱۸۱۱، ۱۸۱۳، ۱۸۱۴ و ۱۸۱۶ در زمان حیات جین آستین نام خود را به عنوان نویسنده‌ای صاحب سبک به ثبت رساند. رمان‌های نورثنگرابی و ترغیب (رمان) در سال ۱۸۱۸، یعنی بعد از مرگ نویسنده، به چاپ رسیدند. دو اثر به نام‌های لیدی سوزان و واتسن‌ها که ناتمام مانده‌است نیز از کارهای اولیهٔ جین آستین باقی مانده‌است. او پیش از مرگ مشغول نوشتن رمانی به نام سندیتن بود که قسمت‌های پراکندهٔ آن در دست است. وی با خواندن کتاب‌های متفاوت یادگرفت از چه چیزهایی پرهیز کند تا داستانهایش جالب و خواندنی شوند. به همین دلیل سبک جین آستن در شیوه نگارش منحصر به فرد است و صدای راوی رمان را با عمیق‌ترین احساسات شخصیت‌های قصه پیوند می‌زند. بطوریکه با خواندن داستان‌های وی می‌توان پا جای پای شخصیت‌های رمان‌های او گذاشت. جین آستین در محیطی نسبتاً منزوی زندگی کرد و اوقات خود را بیشتر به نوشتن گذراند. به نظر نقادان، او نبوغی دووجهی داشت: هم طنز قدرتمندی داشت و هم اخلاقیات و روحیات آدم‌ها را خوب می‌شناخت. این دو وجه در نوشته‌های او نیز تجلی یافته‌است. زندگی اجتماعی و خانوادگی محملی است که نویسنده به کمک آن، با ژرف اندیشی، دربارهٔ انسان‌ها و روابط آن‌ها قضاوت می‌کند و نظر می‌دهد. جین آستن، غالباً زنان نویسنده هم دوره خودش را به خاطر سبک دراماتیک و خسته کننده قصه‌های عاشقانه در رمان‌هایشان دست می‌انداخت.

📝 Plot summary;

💭College graduate Lily Bloom moves to Boston with hopes of opening her own floral shop. She has recently given the eulogy at her father's funeral, in her hometown of Plethora, Maine. Her father was abusive towards her mother, who kept the abuse a secret, leading Lily to resent both of them. She reads through her old childhood diaries and remembers her first love Atlas Corrigan, who left but promised to return to her.

💭While wrestling with her feelings, she meets neurosurgeon Ryle Kincaid. They are mutually attracted to one another, but do not pursue a relationship as Lily is looking for commitment while Ryle is only interested in a casual fling. However, once Lily successfully starts her business, they continue to meet, and start a relationship.

💭One night, Lily laughs when Ryle accidentally drops a casserole, and he angrily pushes her to the ground before frantically apologizing. Lily is reminded of her father's treatment of her mother; while horrified, she decides they are different from her parents and accepts his apologies, but warns him that she will leave if he hurts her again.

💭While dining at a restaurant where Atlas works, Lily reconnects with him, making Ryle instantly jealous despite her insistence that Atlas is only a friend. Suspecting that Ryle may be abusing Lily after noticing her injuries, Atlas secretly gives her his phone number.

💭Lily and Ryle eventually get married, and have a stable marriage until he finds Atlas' number and assaults Lily. He then confesses that he accidentally shot and killed his brother Emerson as a child, resulting in trauma that causes him to have rage-filled episodes. Lily reconciles with him, but Ryle assaults her again after finding her childhood diaries, believing that she is having an affair with Atlas.

💭Lily escapes the house and calls Atlas. He takes her to the hospital, where she discovers she is pregnant with Ryle's child, which she opts to keep a secret from him. She stays with Atlas for a few days while Ryle leaves the country for a fellowship. He leaves her the keys to their apartment and Lily eventually moves back, Ryle still being out of the country. Atlas admits he still has feelings for Lily but has suppressed them because of Ryle. Finally understanding what her mother went through, Lily confides in her about the abuse.

💭When Ryle returns, Lily forms a tentative truce with him and allows him to help her through the final few months of her pregnancy, but remains emotionally distant from him. Lily later gives birth to a daughter, whom she names after Ryle's late brother. After giving birth, Lily realizes she does not want her daughter to grow up witnessing Ryle's aggressive outbursts, and tells him she wants a divorce. He tearfully begs her to reconsider, but finally understands her perspective and agrees to separate after she asks him how he would react if their daughter told him she was being abused by her partner. Lily hopes she has finally ended the cycle of abuse in her family, telling her daughter, "It ends with us."

💭In the epilogue, Lily, who is co-parenting with Ryle, finds Atlas and tells him that she is ready to restart her relationship with him.
