📚 بسته شده

▫️کالین هوور در نوامبر ۲۰۱۲ شروع به نگارش اولین رمان خود، کتاب بسته شده کرد؛ بدون اینکه قصد چاپ آن را داشته باشد. او از یک ترانه از گروه برادران اوت الهام گرفت. به همین دلیل ترانه آن‌ها را در داستانش گنجانید. بعد از چند ماه، رمان او بررسی شد و ماریس بلک، یک وبلاگ نویس بزرگ، به او ۵ ستاره اعطا کرد.

▫️بعد از آن، فروش به سرعت افزایش یافت و کتاب بسته شده و دنباله آن، کتاب نقطه عقب‌نشینی، هر دو در لیست بهترین فروش نیویورک تایمز آورده شدند. کتاب بسته شده در ۵ اوت ۲۰۱۲ رتبه ۸ داستان‌های الکترونیکی را کسب کرد. این کتاب نامزد دریافت جایزه گودریدز نیز شد.

▫️داستان درباره مرگ ناهنگام پدر لیکن باعث شد که لیکن ۱۸ ساله را مجبور کند تا برای برادر ۹ ساله و مادرش سنگ صبور باشد. ظاهراً به نظر می‌رسید که از این اتفاق، لیکن محکم و انعطاف پذیر شده است، اما درون او، از یاس و ناامیدی پر شده بود. برادر او با مرگ پدر کنار می‌آید اما برای لینکن راحت نیست.

▫️در این زمان ویل کوپر وارد زندگی او می‌شود. جوان ۲۱ ساله جذابی که در همسایگی آن‌ها زندگی می‌کند. از لحظه آشنایی آنها، ویل و لیکن وارد یک رابطه احساسی می‌شوند، و ویل امید را در دل لیکن زنده می کند. رفت و آمدهای روزانه برای آن ها درد آور می‌شود طوری که هر لحظه درگیر این موضوع می‌شوند که یک تعادلی را بین احساسات خود برقرار کنند فقط به این خاطر که بتوانند در کنار هم بمانند، و در این میان رازی وجود دارد که آن ها را از هم جدا می‌کند...

▫️کالین هوور نویسنده این کتاب متولد سال ۱۹۷۹ در شهر تگزاس است. او نویسنده پرفروش‌ترین کتاب نیویورک تایمز بابت ۷ رمان و یک داستان کوتاه بوده و او حتی برنده جایزه گودریدز هم شده است.

Hoover has sold approximately 20 million books, as of October 2022. She was named one of the 100 most influential people in the world by Time magazine in 2023.

🔹در سال 2011، کالین هوور اولین رمان خود را نوشت که الهام‌گرفته از ترانه‌ای از یک گروه موسیقی بود و حتی متن ترانه را عیناً در داستان خود به کار گرفت؛ همین امر باعث شد رمان او توسط افراد مختلفی از جمله ماریس بلک، یک وبلاگ‌نویس مشهور، دیده شود و به او امتیازی بدهد که باعث شهرت و فروش سریع رمانش شود، تا آنجا که در مدت کوتاهی، این اثر در فهرست پرفروش‌ترین‌های نیویورک تایمز قرار گرفت.

📚 جغد

من از تپه پایین می آمدم، گرسنه بودم، ولی نه آنقدر که رو به مرگ باشم
سردم بود، ولی گرمایی درون خود داشتم که مرا حفظ می کرد
از باد شمالی خسته بودم، ولی همین قدر که آسودن
زیر یک سقف به نظرم شیرین ترین چیزها می آمد

پس وقتی در مهمان سرا غذا خوردم، کنار آتش نشستم و آسودم
دریافتم که چقدر گرسنه و سرمازده و خسته بودم

صدا از جایی دور در بالای تپه می آمد

📝 Analysis;

I finally settled on Edward Thomas's “The Owl,” not because it is considered a war poem, though it is, but for the more difficult and complex questions it raises. It is a poem about comfort and discomfort, about the power of art—represented by the song of an owl—to make us aware of the suffering of others.

The owl represents for Thomas “all who lay under the stars, soldiers and poor, unable to rejoice.” Suddenly his food seems “salted”. This implies that he feels guilty about the suffering that he has escaped and other could not. He suddenly loses in some sense the pleasures of the inn.

The Owl' by Edward Thomas is a four stanza poem that is divided into sets of four lines, known as quatrains. These quatrains follow a consistent rhyme scheme that conforms to the pattern of ABCB DEFE, alternating end sounds as it progresses.

The plaintive cry of the owl reminded him of the inexplicable suffering which he himself had undergone when he was on the hills reveals the speaker's conscience and humanity.

The word owl originated in early European languages. In old Norse, an Owl was known as "ugla", and in old German, it was "uwila". Both of these words may have been created as sounds that described the unique call of an Owl.

What an owl symbolizes. "Owls symbolize inner wisdom, change, transformation, intuitive development, good luck, and self-actualization," says Charlotte Kirsten, M.A., a cultural symbolism expert and founder of Typically Topical.

Personification: occurs when the poet imbues human characteristics on a non-human object, creature, or element. In this case, the owl is described as wise, as speaking, and as listening as a human being would.

▫️Thomas is known today for his war poems. “The Owl” was written in February 1915 after the start of World War l. Still a civilian, with great empathy he describes the comforts of food, fire and rest during one evening, knowing these are things that soldiers and unfortunate others, are not able to enjoy that night.

He only started writing poetry at the age of 36, but by that time he had already been a prolific critic, biographer, nature writer and travel writer for two decades. In 1915, he enlisted in the British Army to fight in the First World War and was killed in action during the Battle of Arras in 1917, soon after he arrived in France.
