“A man’s Salat in congregation is twenty-five times more rewarding than his Salat at home or in his shop, and that is because when he performs his Wudhu’ properly and proceeds towards the mosque with the purpose of performing Salat in congregation, he does not take a step without being raised a degree (in rank) for it and having a sin remitted for it, till he enters the mosque. The distribution of zakaat ul fitr to families and individuals locally has been arranged الحمد الله.

Anyone interested in having their zakaat ul fitr being distributed locally may bring their food items to the masjid and it can be collected from everyone and distributed إن شاء الله.

Alternatively, if anyone wants to give money as a last resort for one of the brothers to go out and purchase food items locally and/or overseas, they can put it in the box by the front door and/or send to the masjid via Zelle QuickPay at [email protected] clearly mentioning Zakaat ul Fitr in the memo and for how many individuals.

The deadline has been extended to tomorrow till the end of Ramadan 28, 1442 till maghrib inshaAllah.

Ideally, zakaat ul fitr should be distributed by individuals themselves but for the ease and the convenience of the community, this option is available as a last resort.

الحمد الله والصلاة والسلام عل رسول الله. أما بعد.

السلام عليكم ورحمة الله وبركاته.

Alhamdulillah, it has been approx. about a year and a half since the opening of Masjid As-Sunnah in Chicago and having received a Certificate of Occupancy on Nov 25, 2019 and after over 4 years of existence as a nonprofit since June 9, 2017 alhamdulillah, we are now completing the first Ramadan at the masjid wa lilaahil hamd.

Alhamdulillah, Allah سبحانه وتعالى blessed this new community with another Ramadan in the Masjid, the first Ramadan at Masjid As-Sunnah
30 Nights of Taraweeh
30 Days of Fasting
5 Daily Congregational Prayers
30 Days of Iftaar
10 Nights of Tahajjud
10 Days of Suhoor

We make du’a for acceptance of these deeds for all those who supported & continue to support the masjid with their wealth, their time and efforts to help bring this vision into reality and cooperate & collaborate upon Al-Birr & At-Taqwa to come together to establish a masjid and together build a community upon the Qur’an and Authentic Sunnah with the understanding of the Salaf us Saleh.

May Allah subhaanahu wa ta’ala accept all these efforts from all those who strove and gave for His sake alone and continue to strive and give to this house of Allah. May He subhaanahu put baraka in their lives, their time and their efforts and give them the best in the duniya and the akhira and make it heavy on their scales of good deeds yummul qiyyaamaah and make it a means of ongoing charity for them till the day of judgement. Aameen.

Alhamdulillah, the masjid’s petition to get the Property Real Estate Taxes Exempt under the New Consolidated PIN number has been granted and the Masjid was able to save approx. $48,000 in Property Real Estate taxes normally due for this property for the year 2020.

Alhamdulillah, at this point, we are now Complete with 5 out of 6 steps for this property owned by the Masjid:
⁃ Special Use Permit for Religious Assembly - Complete
⁃ Property Acquisition - Complete
⁃ Permits & Construction - Complete
⁃ Normal Operations 5 Daily Prayers/365 Days - Complete
⁃ Real Estate Tax Exemption - Complete
⁃ Limited to Full Occupancy - Pending

Alhamdulillah, as all those who are attending the masjid are witnessing that due to the tremendous growth of the community, we are now reaching over and above the original occupancy limits put in place on the Masjid by the Village of Skokie. Based on meetings & discussions with the Village of Skokie leadership and agreements the masjid made with the village in 2018 prior to opening, the masjid has now reached a point where in order to remain Compliant with Village of Skokie Occupancy Limits & continue its growth inshaAllah, the Masjid would need to start looking at Expansion and Alternatives & also to acquire additional parking spots for masjid attendees.

As of this Ramadan 1442, we are now pleased to announce the commencing of the Masjid As-Sunnah Expansion Project alhamdulillah. In order to start reviewing & negotiating for other properties, the masjid is now looking to raise a nominal amount of at least $400,000 bi idnillah.

Additionally, the masjid is seeking donations for the month of Ramadan 1442 to make up for added expenses this month of approx. $15,000. Primarily we are requesting the brothers to assist in gifting approx $11,000 for the Hufaadh leading the Taraweeh/Qiyaam prayers daily for the entire month of Ramadan.

Finally, the masjid is also seeking donations to raise funds for operational expenses for the year & improvements needed to the Masjid property bi idhnillah. There is an estimated yearly budget of $100,000 to cover for the on going monthly expenses as well as the following need for the following improvements needed some earlier than others:
⁃ Roof/Gutter Repair/Replacement $15,000 to $20,000
⁃ Glass Front Fasade Replacement $15,000 to $20,000
⁃ New Carpet $9,000 to $12,000
⁃ Rebuild/Refinish Front/Rear Asphalt Parking $10,000 to $15,000

May Allah subhaanahu wa ta’ala make this masjid a success for the brothers, sisters & families of this community and bring them all together upon the Qur’an and Authentic Sunnah with the understanding of the Salaf us Saleh. Aameen.

And tawfeeq and success is only from Allah subhaanahu wa ta’ala alone.

قوله تعالى:
مَّن ذَا ٱلَّذِى يُقۡرِضُ ٱللَّهَ قَرۡضًا حَسَنً۬ا فَيُضَـٰعِفَهُ ۥ لَهُ ۥۤ أَضۡعَافً۬ا ڪَثِيرَةً۬‌ۚ وَٱللَّهُ يَقۡبِضُ وَيَبۡصُۜطُ وَإِلَيۡهِ تُرۡجَعُونَ (٢٤٥)
Allāh (سبحانه وتعالى) said:
Who is he that will lend to Allâh a goodly loan so that He may multiply it to him many times? And it is Allâh that decreases or increases (your provisions), and unto Him you shall return. (2:245)[Al-Baqarah, Ayah 245, Muhsin Khan]

قوله تعالى:
{وَأَنفِقُوا مِن مَّا رَزَقْنَاكُم مِّن قَبْلِ أَن يَأْتِيَ أَحَدَكُمُ الْمَوْتُ فَيَقُولَ رَبِّ لَوْلَا أَخَّرْتَنِي إِلَىٰ أَجَلٍ قَرِيبٍ فَأَصَّدَّقَ وَأَكُن مِّنَ الصَّالِحِينَ * وَلَن يُؤَخِّرَ اللَّهُ نَفْسًا إِذَا جَاءَ أَجَلُهَا ۚ وَاللَّهُ خَبِيرٌ بِمَا تَعْمَلُونَ}
Allāh (سبحانه وتعالى) said:
And spend (in charity) of that with which We have provided you, before death comes to one of you and he says: "My Lord! If only You would give me respite for a little while, then I should give Sadaqah of my wealth, and be among the righteous. And Allah grants respite to none when his appointed time (death) comes. And Allah is All-Aware of what you do. [Al-Munafiqoon, Ayah 10-11 Muhsin Khan]

قوله تعالي
{… أَن تَعْتَدُوا وَتَعَاوَنُوا عَلَى الْبِرِّ وَالتَّقْوَىٰ وَلَا تَعَاوَنُوا عَلَى الْإِثْمِ وَالْعُدْوَانِ وَاتَّقُوا اللَّهَ إِنَّ اللَّهَ شَدِيدُ الْعِقَابِ}
Allāh (سبحانه وتعالى) said:
… Help you one another in Al-Birr and At-Taqwa (virtue, righteousness and piety); but do not help one another in sin and transgression. And fear Allah. Verily, Allah is Severe in punishment. [5:2 Translation Mohsin Khan]

The Messenger ﷺ said: "Whoever builds a masjid for Allah, Allah will build a house for him in Jannah" [Bukhari & Muslim] and he ﷺ said: “Save yourself from the fire even by giving half a date in Sadaqah" [Bukhari]
