✅ Legal Framework - The Geographical Indications of Goods (Registration and Protection) Act, 1999 : Registration & Better Protection

India is a signatory to the Political Declaration and Madrid International Plan of Action on Ageing (2002) of the 2nd UN General Assembly on Ageing in Madrid, Spain.
The UN General Assembly designated 1st October as International Day of Older Persons on 14th October, 1990.
The General Assembly adopted the UN principles for older persons based on the International Plan of Action on Ageing 1982.
The four principles were Independence, Participation, Care, Self-fulfillment and Dignity. The UN decade 2021-30 is also declared as Decade of Healthy Ageing and aligned with the SDG (3) Goal of Good Health and Well Being. India formulated the National Policy on Older Persons (NPOP) in 1999 well ahead of the Madrid Plan.

🔆Monocled Cobra
✅Recently, researchers carried out proteomic and biochemical investigations to explore the diversity in the Monocled Cobra (Naja kaouthia) composition across different geographic regions.
✅It is a venomous cobra species widespread across South and Southeast Asia.
✅Some populations of the Monocled cobra have the ability to spit venom, earning them the name "Indian spitting cobra".
They have an O-shaped, or monocellate hood pattern, which has the "spectacle" pattern on the rear of their hood.
📍Habitat:
✅It prefers habitats associated with water, such as paddy fields, swamps, and mangroves, but can also be found in grasslands, shrublands, and forests.
✅It is also found in agricultural land and human settlements including cities.
✅Distribution: It inhabits eastern and northeastern India, Nepal, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia, and southern China.
✅Ecological significance: They play an important role in their ecosystem. They help to maintain the balance of prey species and control agricultural pests such as rats and mice.
✅Conservation status
IUCN Red List: Least Concern (LC)

✅The Banjara community consists of various groups found throughout India, with a significant population in Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, and Karnataka.
✅They have settled in permanent settlements called Tandas, abandoning their nomadic lifestyle.
✅The Banjara people speak GorBoli, also known as Lambadi, which belongs to the Indo-Aryan group of languages and has no script.
✅Teej is a festival celebrated by young unmarried Banjara girls in Shravanam (August), where they pray for a good groom.

✅Recently, the Department of Social Justice and Empowerment (DoSJE), Government of India, and the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) launched the SARTHIE 1.0.
✅It is an initiative intended to empower disadvantaged communities, including Scheduled Castes (SCs), Other Backward Classes (OBCs), Senior Citizens, Transgender Persons, Victims of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse, persons engaged in the act of Begging, Denotified and Nomadic Tribes and more.
✅It aligns with the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, particularly the goals focused on eradicating poverty, reducing inequality, and promoting social protection policies that ensure greater equality for all.
✅The collaboration aims to bridge the awareness gap and provide legal assistance to ensure the effective implementation of social welfare programmes.
✅It offers a synergy between the executive and the judiciary and ensures that social justice is further strengthened.
