Transparency Ethiopia holds its annual General Assembly

Transparency Ethiopia held its annual general assembly on Saturday 2nd of July where it elected new board members and approved the annual work plan.
Samuel Kassahun, Executive Director of TE, opened the meeting by welcoming General Assembly members. Dr.Berhanu Assefa, former board-chair , presented activity report of the 2021 budget year. Mr. Samuel Kassahun later presented the annual work plan and budget which was unanimously approved by the general assembly. This was followed by a discussion session where members provided feedback on the presentation.
New board members were also nominated and endorsed by the assembly. Dr.Yonas Birmeta, Tsigereda Zewdu and Kibreab Abera replaced Dr.Berhanu Assefa, Eyasu Yimer and Blen Bisrat. The assembly warmly welcomed the incoming board members and extended a deep appreciation and gratitude to the unreserved service of the former board members.
The assembly was concluded by a celebration of the award for best performance received by Transparency Ethiopia last year from the Federal Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission as a recognition of TE's significant role in the anti-corruption movement and building of Ethics at the national level.

Semera University student leaders from various clubs have received a three day (July7- 10) training on the themes of: time management, Ethical leadership, and Volunteerism and campaigning in anti corruption movement in Ethiopia. Alem Gebrewold , academic staff of Semera University, provided the training on the mentioned topics. The training at Samara University was the last one of the series trainings that have been given to university students in several universities across the country.
In parallel to the training event, a discussion session moderated by Ato Ghermay Alemayehu was held with 100 (one hundred) Samara University graduating class students on the theme 'being responsible, transparent and accountable citizens'.
At the end of the session, the graduating students took an oath where they expressed their commitment to refrain from corruption and immoral acts, and to fight injustice and safeguard humanrights as they join the workforce. At the end of the session, students received a certifate as a recognition of their participation in the trainings and discussions.
The training and discussion events are part of the European Union Civil Society Fund III supported project titled "Ensuring Participation of Actors for Transparency and Accountability of Institutions to Support the fight against Corruption and Promote Democratic Governance and Rule of Law in Ethiopia".

Student clubs' leaders at Jigjiga University have received the last training from the series of trainings offered by Transparency Ethiopia on the topics of Ethical Leadership, and Volunteerism and Campaigning in Anti-Corruption Movement in Ethiopia. Woyesa Woka, Transparency Ethiopia's representative who provided the training underscored the importance of Ethical Leadership and the spirit of volunteerism and campaigning in the fight against corruption and in the overall development of an ethical society.
The event at Jigjiga University also included a discussion session which was held with 100 (one hundred) graduating class students on the theme 'being responsible, transparent and accountable citizens'. Mr. Hassen Mohammed, Director of the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Office, made the opening speech where he encouraged graduating students to take ethics, accountability and transparency seriously as they join the workforce. The same was amplified by Mr Solomon, Lecturer at the University, who made presentations and led the discussion. Mr. Abraham Hunduma ,Transparency Ethiopia's representative,having made general introductions about Transparency Ethiopia, reminded the students the high expectations TE and society at large places on them.

Transparency Ethiopia(TE) holds the first phase of internal accountability manual development workshop

TE has conducted a successful first phase of the workshop intended to support CSOs prepare relevant internal accountability instruments. A customized capacity assessment tool development by TE has been distributed to participant CSOs prior to the workshop. The ensuing workshop was based on the feedback gathered from the CSOs through the assessment tool.
The workshop held on the 11th and 12th of August at Saphire Addis was opened by a brief speech delivered by Ato Samuel Kassahun, Executive Director of TE. Ato Samuel welcomed and thanked participants for taking time to fill out the extensive assessment tool and for participating in the workshop. Ato Samuel also noted the importance of developing internal accountability instruments for CSO's effective performance.
Dr.Eshetu Bekele , highly sought after international consultant and a resource person for the workshop, made relevant presentations and facilitated group discussions during the two days workshop. The participant CSOs finally departed with an assignment to prepare a resource mobilization manual based on the guidance provided by Dr. Eshetu. The steering committee composed of nine individuals from among the CSOs shall lead the manual preparation with the support of the resource person.
The group of CSOs shall meet again to finalize the manual at the second phase of the workshop to be held on the 18th and 19th of August at the same venue.
