In its March 2023 Progress
Report to the U.K. Parliament,
the Climate Change Committee(CCC), said that the U.K. has
not adequately prepared for
climate change under the
second National Adaptation
Programme.

🔆 BRICS- South Africa, 2023
✅ The expansion of the club of five is set to top the agenda when the BRICS nations convene in the South African city of Johannesburg.
✅ More than a handful of hopefuls 23 in fact, including Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, Iran, Argentina and Ethiopia are
interested in joining the bloc.
✅ Russia’s war in Ukraine, related sanctions, criticism of the dollar’s role in international finance and the global balance of power
✅ This BRICS summit is about more than many developing and middle-income countries turning away from the West. It’s about them asserting their growing self- confidence.
✅ Despite its internal conflicts, the BRICS community has been seen as a success story. Its combined share of global economic output rose from 18% to 26% between 2010 and 2021, according to the latest BRICS investment report from theUnited Nations Conference on Trade and Development released in April.
✅ Two more indicators underline the group’s potential: the growth rate of intra-BRICS exports and the level of foreign direct investment into BRICS countries is above the global average, according to the UN report.

🔆Recently, during the BRICS meeting, the Prime Minister of India gifted a Gond painting to the Brazilian president Lula da Silva.
📍Gond Painting:
✅It is a famous folk art of the Gond tribal community of central India.
✅It is done to preserve and communicate the culture of the Gond tribal community.
✅Themes: Gond tribes are highly interlinked with nature, and this appears in their paintings too.
✅They include animals, the mahua tree, mythological stories, Hindu gods, local deities and folktales, etc.
✅The artist uses his distinctive pattern and style to fill the images. These style signatures are used in collages to make a complete picture, such as dots, fine lines, curved lines, dashes, fish scales, etc.

✅ The U.S. will strengthen South Korea’s nuclear deterrence capabilities through joint military training programs and an annual intergovernmental simulation.

Afghanistan is missing from the BRICS declaration, but the document mentioned the “legitimate” aspirations of India, Brazil and South Africa to be part of the UN Security Council, acknowledged G20 as a premier multilateral forum and called the Russia-Ukraine war a “conflict” this time instead of “situation”.
On Security Council reforms, the BRICS declaration introduced the phrase "legitimate aspirations" and the word "democratic" in the paragraph. Last year, BRICS had merely talked about "aspirations" of India, Brazil and South Africa and making the UNSC "representative, effective and efficient".

🔆Defence minister soon to visit srilanka.
✅The two-day visit comes at a time when the Sri Lankan Foreign Ministry is considering a fresh request from China to allow the visit of a research ship; Defence Minister is also expected to visit Trincomalee, where India is jointly investing in the joint development of Oil Tank farm
✅Later in November, another vessel ‘Yuan Wang-6’ had entered Indian Ocean Region coinciding with a planned Indian long range missile launch but the launch was then deferred and the vessel had re-entered the IOR in December when the missile test was rescheduled
✅India is probably strategically looking at that...because of their security concerns
