This update brings improved chat previews on par with iOS. Now you can scroll through them to view the whole chat without marking it as read. To start a Secret Chat, you can either tap on the option in the hamburger menu and select a contact to start the chat. Alternatively, you can go to an existing chat, tap on the top bar for the user’s information and scroll down to find the “Start Secret Chat” option at the very bottom of the page. Once you tap on the option, the other person will have to accept your invitation to initiate the Secret Chat. To mute a chat in Telegram, head over to the chat in question. Next, tap the name at the top and then hit the mute button. You can also customize your chat background image in “Chat Background” in Chat Settings. “Privacy” itself isn’t a particularly attractive product feature in online services. It can be nebulous: We can’t always feel or understand it, and sometimes it’s only when privacy is taken away that we take it seriously.
