Fortunately, Telegram offers you the needed control over the visibility of your profile. Telegram is all about privacy and security, and it isn't beholden to larger companies like Facebook. Owners of public groups can enable join requests via Group Info > Edit > Group Type > Who Can Send Messages > select Only Members > enable Approve New Members.

Once you have added your theme, you will see a new paint button has appeared at the top. Tap on it and then you will see the names of different elements that you can edit.
