El Profesor – Bella ciao (Hugel remix)
🎼 Bella ciao
🎧 El Profesor

O bella ciao, bella ciao, bella ciao ciao ciao
Una mattina mi son svegliato
E ho trovato l’invasor
O partigiano portami via

O bella ciao, bella ciao, bella ciao ciao ciao
Partigiano portami via
Che mi sento di morir
E se io muoio da partigiano

O bella ciao, bella ciao, bella ciao ciao ciao
E se io muoio da partigiano
Tu mi devi seppellir
Mi seppellirai lassù in montagna

O bella ciao, bella ciao, bella ciao ciao ciao
Mi seppellirai lassù in montagna
Sotto l’ombra d’un bel fior
E la gente che passerà

O bella ciao, bella ciao, bella ciao ciao ciao
E la gente che passerà
E dirà oh che bel fior

One morning I awakened
Oh Goodbye beautiful, Goodbye beautiful, Goodbye beautiful! Bye! Bye!
One morning I awakened
And I found the invader
Oh partisan carry me away
Oh Goodbye beautiful, Goodbye beautiful, Goodbye beautiful! Bye! Bye!
Oh partisan carry me away
Because I feel death approaching
And if I die as a partisan
(And if I die on the mountain)
Oh Goodbye beautiful, Goodbye beautiful, Goodbye beautiful! Bye! Bye!
And if I die as a partisan
(And if I die on the mountain)
Then you must bury me
Bury me up in the mountain
(And you have to bury me)
Oh Goodbye beautiful, Goodbye beautiful, Goodbye beautiful! Bye! Bye!
Bury me up in the mountain
(And you have to bury me)
Under the shade of a beautiful flower
And the people who shall pass
(And all those who shall pass)
Oh Goodbye beautiful, Goodbye beautiful, Goodbye beautiful! Bye! Bye!
And the people who shall pass
(And all those who shall pass)
Will tell me: “what a beautiful flower”
(And they will say: “what a beautiful flower”)
This is the flower of the partisan
(And this is the flower of the partisan)
Oh Goodbye beautiful, Goodbye beautiful, Goodbye beautiful! Bye! Bye!
This is the flower of the partisan
(And this is the flower of the partisan)
Who died for freedom
(Who died for freedom)

"The Ambitious Guest" is a short story by Nathaniel Hawthorne. First published in The New-England Magazine in June 1835, it was republished in the second volume of Twice-Told Tales in 1841.

📚The Ambitious Guest
✏️Summary;

▫️The story begins with a sense of calm, a family sitting together in the warmth of their fireplace, finding themselves fulfilled by the happiness and comfort of each other. They lived near a big mountain, subject to the biting cold and tumbling rocks. They lived in a deserted place, but it was near a very popular trade route. The house was a tavern where people would lodge when they needed shelter.

▫️On that night, they had a visitor in the shape of a nameless youth looking for a place to stay awhile. Though he seemed discouraged by his lonely travels, the family’s warm welcome soon made him feel better. He explained where he planned to go and mentioned that the warm fire made him feel as if he belonged in that room that night.

▫️They could hear stones rolling down the mountain, but the master of the house comforted the guest by telling him that there is a place close by in case they need to suddenly vacate the house. They all sat together, satiated, and happy, talking about themselves. The guest, usually quite withdrawn, found himself speaking freely with them, and they with him.
The characteristic of this guest was that he was ambitious, and he had a strong desire to be known across the globe. He wanted to make his mark on the world and be remembered for years to come.  He felt that his destiny was to be glorified in the future, even if he was not alive by the time that occurred.

▫️His candor inspired the rest of the family to express their ambitions as well. The father spoke about his desire to have a farm in a place safe from falling rocks and to retire peacefully with his wife. Even the children, all in bed in another room, were telling each other about their dreams for when they reach adulthood. The oldest girl subtly expressed her desire for companionship, and this may have blossomed between her and the guest. The grandmother was the last to speak, detailing her fear of not being at rest after death, which was swiftly followed by the guest commenting that everyone in the world talks of death, and dreams of having a monument to their name. They all sat calmly within the embrace of the firelight, a humble family, and an ambitious guest.
They heard the sound of a fatal avalanche and rushed out of the house to get to safety. Yet, the avalanche split off and didn’t hit the house, but buried them all under rocks. The cascade of rocks covered everything but the now vacant house. The bodies of the family were never found. People mourned them, and their story became a legend of the mountains. As for the guest, he died unknown, and people doubt whether he was ever in that room at all. He, who so desired fame, could not accomplish anything that warranted the fulfillment of his ambition.

📝Analysis;

💭 The story, about a family struggling through a storm and its efforts to survive the night, is based on the true story of the Willey Family and its hired help who died in an avalanche in 1826. Hawthorne, however, focuses his narrative on what happens before the avalanche, and the theme of lost ambitions.

💭 Nestled in the Notch of the White Hills, one family invites strangers into their home; it's the only safe haven around. They live simply in their mountainside cottage, the setting for Nathaniel Hawthorne's ''The Ambitious Guest.

💭 The moral of Nathaniel Hawthorne's short story "The Ambitious Guest" is that nature is infinitely more powerful than people realize and one errs if one assumes that nature can be dominated or controlled.

💭 Nathaniel Hawthorne's The Ambitious Guest uses a great deal of symbolism throughout the story. The dangerous and beautiful location of the home represents the risk of proximity to nature. The road winding past the house represents the journey everyone takes through life.

💭 In “The Ambitious Guest” the omniscient narrator encourages the reader to foretell the ending, which, of course, would have been well known to Hawthorne's contemporaries, with foreshadowing such as saying that the stranger's “fate was like to theirs” (163), that the family lived in a “romantic and dangerous abode”

🎼 wish you were here

So, so you think you can tell
Heaven from Hell,
blue skies from pain.
Can you tell a green field
from a cold steel rail?
A smile from a veil?
Do you think you can tell?

Did they get you to trade
your heroes for ghosts?
Hot ashes for trees?
Hot air for a cool breeze?
Cold comfort for change?
Did you exchange a walk
on part in the war
for a lead role in a cage?

How I wish,
how I wish you were here.
We're just two lost souls
swimming in a fish bowl,
year after year,
Running over the same old ground.
What have we found?
The same old fears.
Wish you were here.
