SHIV MAHIMNA STOTRA
Verse 2

Your greatness is unparalleled which is beyond mind and speech. Even the Vedas are also astonished to define you and say nothing more than 'Not This' 'Not This'. You possess numerous qualities which can not be described by any one. Whose mind and speech would not turn when as absolute you took forms to favour the devotees, when you descended from nirgun state to saguna state to please your devotees? Word of praise of every devotee reaches you.
ABUSE OF SIVA

Abuse of Siva Brings
Misery Those who have Jnana attained,
Rid of all doubts in their thoughts
Seek Him in love intense Shall reach the World of Celestials;
If the low-born think any the less of Him, Dismal indeed is their fate—
Like the parrot in cat’s claw.

Adore Lord and Attain Jnana
The Devas and Asuras wasted their lives
And finally died;
They attained not Jnana true;
They alone can attain Truth
Who adore Primal Lord in devotion intense.

_____________________

“Even the devas”, says Mular, “cannot find Liberation unless they adore the Lord, Siva.”

Abuse not Siva Even in Fun
They defied the Lord, Devas and Asuras,
And they defied themselves one another And destruction met,
However little, defy not Lord,
Not even for fun, They snow-ball, one into ten.

Dare not Forget Lord However
Holy Learned are they in Vedic lore;
Knowing God is within them,
They bethought themselves to be God
And plunged into pleasures distracting
Forgetting all thought of God.

Remember the fate that overtook the rishis that were learned in the Vedic lore. Postulating that God is within them, they presumed they themselves were God, and so plunged into distracting pleasures, forgetting all thought of the Lord. (The reference here is to the rishis of Daruka forest, who ignored Siva and performed unholy sacrifice.)

🌿Human evolution has two steps -
from being somebody to being nobody; and from being nobody to being everybody. This knowledge can bring sharing and caring throughout the world.

🌿Activity and rest are two vital aspects of life. To find a balance in them is a skill in itself. Wisdom is knowing when to have rest, when to have activity, and how much of each to have. Finding them in each other - activity in rest and rest in activity - is the ultimate freedom.

🌿Wise is the one who learns from another´s mistakes. Less wise is the one who learns only from his own mistakes. The fool keeps making the same mistakes again and again and never learns from them.

🍃🌸Message to Grihasthajanas [Householders]🌸🍃

🌿 You stay in your own house, you will not have to leave home for dharma, you will not have to go anywhere and do yoga, meditation or penance. The place where one is engaged in the earning profession should remain there. Not even a single step will have to be moved from there for the sake of dharma practice.

🌿 Many sages and Lord Krishna have preached the practice of self-righteousness [conducting own prescribed duties]. Keep this in mind that from evening till morning and again from morning till evening, whatever you do – worries and actions – everything is worship of Jagajjanani [supreme goddess]. Peace and satisfaction are obtained from this Vishwakar worship [unified universal worship].

🌿 Be unattached, offer all the fruits of your actions at the feet of the Lord and move forward on the path of life with enthusiasm. This is the sadhana of a virtuous life. Then dharma and karma will become one. At that time, you will feel that whatever is done for the attainment of Shri Bhagavan – worry, work, activities, everything is dharma. That is how the life and mind becomes pure-pious and blissful.

Approach to meditation In the Raja Yoga Sutras (Samadhipada: 14) of Patanjali there is a sutra which describes the process of meditation -

That (practice) becomes firmly grounded which is continued for a long time with reverence and without interruption.

This is the main sutra which must be taught to every aspirant. Three qualities are necessary for the achievement or fulfilment of any sadhana, whether it be spiritual or material.

🥀The first is faith or conviction.

Even if you are working in a factory, there has to be a conviction that through the work you will achieve your goal. Without that conviction there is no motivation to do the work. The same principle applies to the practice of dharana. There has to be faith or conviction that, “Yes, through my practice I am going to attain the goal.” Whether it takes a long time or a short time is irrelevant.

🥀Continuity or regularity is the second aspect of sadhana.

When you feel that you can fulfil your need with a particular sadhana then you try to become regular in it. During that period of regular practice you try to ignore any distractions which come in the way. Once you set out on a journey, how long it will take you to reach your destination depends on your continuity. You can stop twenty times on the way, or you can just go on continuously. If you stop twenty times on the way, it will take you longer to complete the journey, but if you go on continuously, you will complete the journey sooner. Continuity without a break is necessary in order to obtain the full benefit of the practice. Many times people say, “I have been practising concentration for many years and nothing has happened.” However, most of these people do not practise regularly. Perhaps they practise only once a week or not at all for several weeks and then they may have a spurt of enthusiasm where they practise for long durations. Right from the start it should be understood that practising one day a week is like taking one step forward, and not practising for the remaining six days is like taking six steps back. How can you expect to make any progress in this way? Therefore, in the practice of meditation there has to be continuity and regularity.

🥀Practice over a long period of time is the third aspect of sadhana which must be fulfilled.

The idea of practising one thing for a long period of time is something which puts most people off. If we have to do something for a long time, we tend to get bored and lose interest. In external awareness the mind follows the senses, but when we are internalized, with the senses following the mind, then the time factor is not important. So, we have to be committed to the practice of meditation without any impatience or expectation of achievement within a certain period of time. If there is expectation of achievement within a certain time, then it should be dealt with accordingly. You also have to consider that your approach to meditation begins just like that of a caterpillar, moving from one small leaf of a huge tree to another. To arrive at the centre of that tree may be the eventual aim, but in the beginning you cannot just go straight to the centre. To do that a different kind of awareness is needed. You have to start crawling from where you are, like a caterpillar which has a leaf as its world. As it passes the leaf, it reaches a tiny twig, which connects to a bigger branch, which connects to another bigger branch, which connects to the trunk of the tree, which goes down into the roots. Our mentality, our expectations, our life, our world, is our leaf and we are nibbling away at it. In fact, we are all caterpillars in our own right, nibbling away at our leaf. From this leaf we have to get to the main trunk and eventually try to bore a hole in the centre. This is the process of meditation.

🌿Gandhi Jayanti🌿

🌷The only devils in this world are those running around inside our own hearts, and that is where all our battles should be fought.

🌷In prayer it is better to have a heart without words than words without a heart.

🌷Non-violence, which is the quality of the heart, cannot come by an appeal to the brain.

🌷To see the universal and all-pervading Spirit of Truth face to face, one must be able to love the meanest of all creation as oneself.

🌷A 'No' uttered from the deepest conviction is better than a 'Yes' merely uttered to please, or worse, to avoid trouble.

🌷When every hope is gone, 'when helpers fail and comforts flee,' I find that help arrives somehow, from I know not where. Supplication, worship, prayer are no superstition; they are acts more real than the acts of eating, drinking, sitting or walking. It is no exaggeration to say that they alone are real, all else is unreal.

🌷Each one has to find his peace from within. And peace to be real must be unaffected by outside circumstances.

🌷There is force in the universe, which, if we permit it, will flow through us and produce miraculous results.

🌷Carefully watch your thoughts, for they become your words. Manage and watch your words, for they will become your actions. Consider and judge your actions, for they have become your habits. Acknowledge and watch your habits, for they shall become your values. Understand and embrace your values, for they become your destiny.

🌷The seeker after truth should be humbler than the dust. The world crushes the dust under its feet, but the seeker after truth should so humble himself that even the dust could crush him. Only then, and not till then, will he have a glimpse of truth.

🌷Speak only if it improves upon the silence.

🌷Love never claims, it ever gives. Love ever suffers, never resents never revenges itself. Where love is, there God is also.

🌷A thousand candles can be lighted from the flame of one candle, and the life of the candle will not be shortened. Happiness can be spread without diminishing that of yourself.

🌷It is better to be violent, if there is violence in our hearts, than to put on the cloak of nonviolence to cover impotence.

🌷A man, whilst he is dreaming, believes in his dream; he is undeceived only when he is awakened from his slumber.

🌷An error does not become truth by reason of multiplied propagation, nor does the truth become error because nobody will see it.

🌷Don't talk about it. The rose doesn't have to propagate its perfume. It just gives it forth, and people are drawn to it. Live it, and people will come to see the source of your power.

[Gandhi to Christians^]

🌷Birth and death are not two different states, but they are different aspects of the same unchanging truth.

🌷The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others.

🌷I call him religious who understands the suffering of others.

🌷There is no 'way to peace,' there is only 'peace.

🌷The weak can never forgive. Forgiveness is the attribute of the strong.

🌷There are many causes I would die for. There is not a single cause I would kill for.

🌷The Roots of Violence: Wealth without work, Pleasure without conscience, Knowledge without character, Commerce without morality, Science without humanity, Worship without sacrifice, Politics without principles.

🌷If you don't find God in the next person you meet, it is a waste of time looking for him further.
