Extra features on LineageOS (Others)
Time flies and we have almost finished introducing all LineageOS features, let's check out what LineageOS has to offer.

Charging sounds
Just like your ringtone, notification and alarm sounds, you can choose your preferred sound when you plugged in your device. If you want it to be completely silent, there is the option for you to disable it and the vibration.

Screen lock
For patterns, there is 3x3, 4x4, 5x5, 6x6 grid size. Just a note that if you used Google Backup, 3x3 is the only one that is going to work while restoring your data. If you use PIN, you can choose to randomise the number order by scrambling the PIN layout, that's enabled by default.

QS tiles
Lastly, there are a few available QS tiles in LineageOS are added by the team itself. Those are: Caffeine, Heads Up, Sync, Ambient Display, USB Tethering, AOD, Wireless PowerShare, Reading mode, NFC, System profiles, VPN, Volume panel. Tiles available vary across devices as not every device has every feature.

Extra features on LineageOS (Connections)
A phone can maximise its potential by connecting to the Internet, so that you can browse the web, communicate with others, get the latest information and so much more. LineageOS has added a few neat features over at connection which will make someone's day.

You can toggle network access for applications or disable in certain conditions, like whether they can access the device's Wi-Fi or mobile data connection. Also you can disable background & VPN data access, and another option is to let the app have unrestricted data usage when Data Saver is enabled. This particular feature is pretty neat for those who have limited network quota.

Besides, you can let hotspot clients use your device's VPN if available. By default, your device actually doesn't share out the VPN connection, which means devices connected to the hotspot will only get the direct network traffic from your phone, and LineageOS makes that possible with just a single toggle, no root required too.

What's good about LineageOS?
When some people heard of LineageOS, they will just think that it's a barebone ROM with very less to no features. Technically it's not wrong but it comes with some useful exchanges.

Easy-to-use OTA
As we all know, OTA updates is suppose to ease the process of updatng the device to a later version of build. Many ROMs included it but then sometimes when there is some major changes being made, the ROM developer then send out a notice that users have to clean flash in order to use the latest build version, so I wonder what's literally the purpose of including it if users have to skip using this feature once in a while, and it's not even upgrading Android version yet.

With LineageOS, rest assured as LineageOS do the updating process for you in just a few clicks. If your device supports Seamless Update, it is even better as Magisk will be preserved during the process. For upgrade, most of the time you just have to boot into recovery and sideload the update, then flash additional packages you use and done, not a single wipe involved if you followed the steps correctly.

Longer Lifespan
It's no-brainer that manufacturers stop releasing updates for their older models since the hardware started to show its age and most users will have already switch to using a better device. Android custom ROM community provides the opportunity to extend the lifespan of the device, LineageOS is one of them, and it might run better too. And if you don't know yet, it's also use as proof of concept for many legacy devices.

Lightweight & Open-Source Apps
The applications came with the ROM by default is fully open-source and weigh less than 10MB in size, most devices shouldn't have any issues running them. It also doesn't come with any unnecessary stuff included, only providing the services it needed to work, which means you get more storage space to play around with too.

Customisations but is it relevant?
Okay customisations, yes it's cool to have those options and make it uniquely your device, and by now, you can already use modules to extend the ability to do so. Just a reminder that phones are invented for communicating with each others from far apart, and all of these customisations won't last long forever, but your friendship will, so think clearly about it. With a few set of useful features & customisations, this also means less bugs to be found across the ROM, and most likely it will be AOSP fault if there is one.

It's For Everyone
For starters, this is an easy go-to option. And for experienced users, they appreciated the features and the clean experience provided in this ROM, so yeah, it's for everyone to use. If you don't wish to wipe your device oftenly, this is a good ROM to opt-in for.

Yeah, probably this post won't get any attention or what, but I will just left it here and hope it could inspire more people to use LineageOS. If you haven't tried it out or use it on a long-term basis, then you should definitely give a try.

Android 11 (LineageOS 18.1) Issues on Pixel
The first generation Pixel has been receiving official support from LineageOS since version 15.1, and it's still currently receiving 18.1 builds on a monthly basis. It's good but then, the device tree somehow is just somehow missing certain stuff, making the experience a little worse.

The 1st generation Pixel only received official support from Google until Android 10 (and it's also frankly buggy too), so the Android 11 device tree was basically built by the community. There's nothing wrong with this but due to limited time and resources, the device tree couldn't be done well and hence causing minor issues.

What's the issue? It's very obvious as you boot into the system, you will realise that every single time you restart, all your background services and widgets will take 20 minutes to set up which is kind of unacceptable. Once uptime reached the two weeks milestone, the whole launcher started to get unresponsive and that meant you had to reboot the phone, and face the previous issue mentioned earlier again and again.

The issue has been there since the first build and after nearly a year time, the developer didn't do anything to fix it. At first, it was thought that it's more of a skill issue, but after experimenting multiple times, it is confirmed that this is a device tree issue, which also means this is affecting every Android 11 custom ROM for the Pixel.

On surface, it looks like a small unimportant issue so people just ignored it, but over time this evolved into something that is annoying, especially if you are still using it as your daily driver. Not to mention some parts of the SystemUI are kind of bork, for example the navigation bar hide itself in any camera app, which isn't supposed to happen.

A little disappointed that the Pixel community is too small with very few developers and user bases, that means no one is willing to put in effort to get this issue to be solved anymore, and the issues will just remain there forever...

Anyway, I hope everyone could at least lend out a hand and report it to the maintainer of the ROM, kindly don't spam and report the issues in a polite way.
#Tips
LineageOS Build Distribution History
If you are new to LineageOS and wanted to try it out, you might notice all the build types being listed on their website are just "nightly" but it is updated on a weekly or monthly basis instead. So what's going on over here?

If you didn't know, CyanogenMod was succeeded by LineageOS, and before that, CyanogenMod categorised builds into two types, nightlies which constantly receive updates and snapshots which are considered stable for users. After CyanogenMod deprecated, LineageOS didn't decide to follow this practice as it is a little time-consuming to do for a vast amount of devices.

After that, LineageOS just started off with weekly updates. And after nearly two years, they received more servers which will shorten the time of building, that's when real nightlies came along. At that time, LineageOS 15.1 received nightly builds while LineageOS 14.1 got monthly updates. One day before LineageOS 16.0 became official, LineageOS 15.1 builds will be distributed on a weekly basis, and the latter version obviously gets updated daily.

In June 2020, eventually the build server couldn't catch up to build all devices under 24 hours time every single day, so all builds were moved back to update weekly once again, and this practice continues till today. In October 2022, 18.1 builds were later being kept to update monthly as many devices couldn't get promoted to the 19.1 or 20 branch.

Regardless of which versions, if you have the NIGHTLY build, you can at least be sure that this is signed and distributed by LineageOS themselves, which is usually stable enough to daily drive. Of course, you can double-check everything by verifying the build's signature key, which the guide can be found on LineageOS Wiki itself.

LineageOS 17.1 for Pixel XL 1 Year+ Review When I first get to unlock my Verizon Pixel XL bootloader during the exploit time (July 15, 2020), I am so excited that I can escape the "confined space." After that, I asked many peoples' opinion about what ROM to…
LineageOS 17.1 ~ 18.1 2 Years+ Review
Time flies and yet another year has passed, just like that I have been using LineageOS on my Pixel XL for over two years, without a single wipe. This is something only LineageOS can do, the process of upgrading.

Many ROMs care about the customisations, but as you can see over here, LineageOS cares about the usability and consistency, which is something very similar to Apple's philosophy over here. The ROM itself is pretty smooth out of the box for any phone, as the OS itself is lightweight, hence it's also used as a proof of concept for older devices.

Anyway, the upgrade is said to work well if you are coming from official build, but earlier I dirty flashed the unofficial release by razorloves, surprisingly the upgrade still works since the device tree is the same, but that means signature key got conflicted, and till today, I only faced a few minor issues, when the device booted up, widgets & background services only loaded after 20 minutes of uptime. Another issue happened after about 2 weeks of uptime, the OS started to slow down. Sure, I could easily get rid of it by starting fresh again, but there won't be this one of a kind review. Okay but anyway, I did it in Dec 2022, and after doing several times of investigations, it seems to be the build fault after all, so I am a little disappointed by it and decided to return back to the good ol' LineageOS 17.1 build, and it's buttery smooth.

I replaced my Pixel's battery a few months ago, and it's back to full power. With light-normal usage, I am usually getting six hours of screen time. I don't do gaming but I decided to give it a test and let you guys know, I guess it can roughly last for about three and a half hours. Idle drain is also doing well, for 30h time it only drained 4% while with Wi-Fi on for 10h, the drained amount is also the same. And remember, it's just a 3450 mAh battery capacity, so that's considered awesome.

And yeah, so I debloated my Pixel further over time, from the earliest 45 apps installed, till only with a remaining of 30 apps remaining today. So for all this time, I find many applications to be just a gimmick, like it's something nice to have but it's not really that necessary. In the early days, I still remembered I am having four battery monitoring apps just to check how good is my Pixel's battery is performing, but what I didn't realise is that these apps summing up together are actually slowing taking away the battery juice from my phone over time, so I ended up uninstalling them from my phone. Then I uninstalled extra camera applications, browsers, tools, with less processes going on in the background, the phone at least runs better now.

After all, do people still remember what a phone is supposed to be used for? The invention of the phone is actually made to communicate with each other easily, but these days people are addicted to online services and the personalisations & customisations on the phone. Over time, I just find myself losing interest in all of this stuff and in my opinion, smartphones are just overhyped products. We see companies improving it with new features, sure, but ask yourself, do you use them often? And does it really change your life?

A phone with LineageOS installed can do almost anything a new iPhone can do, though of course, you are losing out on Apple seamless integrations, but other than that, you can browse the web, listen to music, communicate with each other... you name it. What I am trying to say here is that, as long as your phone works without any issue for you, just use it because it works.

Yeah, if you asked me, I am personally bored of LineageOS too, but why spend so much time on the phone when you can spend it in your real life? The world is full of stuff to explore, so don't bother with your phone too much. In the end, I still want to say, LineageOS is still going strong, and I hope the project will continue to get development over the next few years as long as Android still exists. One last quote from me: "As long as your phone works and it's fine, use it."
