Future plans for LineageOS
I did not expect this but it seems like LineageOS is confident to release their upcoming version of builds very soon, LineageOS 20.

Earlier when LineageOS 19.1 is announced, not many devices managed to get the promotion, due to the new kernel implementation change, and the time is about to arrive, LineageOS 20 is coming but if the team decided to drop the maintained devices that are still stuck at 18.1, that will left with a remaining of 100 devices being maintained. So this time, LineageOS decided to extend the maintenance period for 18.1 branches, by shifting them to a monthly release instead of weekly.

So what's changing for the Pixel devices? First gen Google Pixel devices will continue to receive monthly 18.1 updates further on, Pixel 2 series till the Pixel 3a series will receive weekly 19.1 updates, and rest of the generations are receiving 20.0 updates based on Android 13.

For the rest of the devices, if your device got maintained by @npjohnson and it's still on 18.1, you are safe as those will continue to receive updates.

Google Pixel 6 & 7 series is about to receive official LineageOS support
Gerrit Review (2)

It's been one year since the Pixel 6 series was released and one good news for the device development, LineageOS is about to start distributing official builds for those devices, alongside with the newly released Pixel 7 series too.

Pixel 6 (oriole), Pixel 6 Pro (raven) & Pixel 7 Pro (cheetah) are maintained by @npjohnson & @mikeioannina, while Pixel 6a (bluejay) & Pixel 7 (panther) will be cover by @mikeioannina only. All these devices are scheduled to receive LineageOS 20.0. Once it got merged, that makes it the first ever ROM to maintain the complete Pixel series, big accomplishment!

For now, the change is currently still in review, but we will notify you guys about it when the official support arrived. Stay tuned. Just for your information, if you had like to receive more updates regarding LineageOS (for Pixel devices specifically), follow @Pixel1Updates.

Extra features on LineageOS (Buttons > Navigation Bar)
When compared to other ROMs, LineageOS seems bland with only a few features. Anyway, let's deep dive into the ROM and see what extra features the ROM offers. First, we will check out the navigation bar.

You can toggle whether to show arrows key while typing with 3-button or2-button navigation. Those arrows are displayed on each side of the navigation bar, tapping on it will move the focus of the cursor to the particular direction. Invert layout is basically self-explanatory, back button is on the left by default, toggling that will change it to right and vice versa. One bug here though, arrows won't revert until you change the system navigation back and forward once (on LineageOS 18.1 and later version probably).

Next, we got Back, Home, Recents long press action and Home double tap action. The downside of using the Home double tap action is that the Home action will respond slightly slower in order to know whether you are going to trigger it or not. Another downside of using Back long press action is that browsers that make use of it show history of your visited page won't be able to execute it.

We should mention that you get all four options only if you use 3-button navigation, you lose out on Recents long press action if you use 2-button navigation. For gestures, you will be getting Edge long swipe action instead and that's all. The actions available to choose are: Open/Close menu, Recent apps switcher, Search assistant, Voice search, In-app search, Launch camera, Turn screen off, Last app, Split Screen, Kill foreground app.

Talking about all these, when you look back at what Google offered on their Pixel, those customisations aren't there at all. If people said LineageOS is bland, I wonder why not they said stock ROM for Pixel is the same too. I couldn't even revert the button layout at all without root over there.

LineageOS 18.1 shifted to monthly release
Gerrit Review

The time has arrived, it is thought that LineageOS 18.1 will come to an end, but surprisingly, the team decided to change the history, by moving the branch to a monthly schedule release.

Good news is that the first-gen Google Pixel and Pixel XL are continuing to receive the official build update. There isn't any sign of Android 12 ROMs coming for the Pixel for now, although someone did try to build it but it doesn't boot up, so it's unlikely that we will see it getting LineageOS 19.1 official build soon, unless someone figured out a solution.

Anyway, a total of 57 devices will continue to receive monthly LineageOS 18.1 builds. 32 devices have been dropped from the build roster. With this change, these devices will probably continue to receive another year of support which is good to know.

That also means LineageOS 20 official announcement is about to happen soon, stay tuned as we keep you guys updated with it.

Extra features on LineageOS (Buttons > Power button)
Continuing the series, next we have power button customisations. As we all know, long pressing the power button triggers the power menu. The power menu options available are: Screenshot, Aeroplane mode, User switcher, Bug report, Lockdown, Emergency. The Screenshot option has a hidden feature, long pressing on it and you will be able to take a partial screenshot. User switcher is only available if you use Multiple users feature, and Lockdown is available when you have a lock screen set for your device.

Moving on, you can end the call by pressing the power button. This is pretty useful when you have your phone put right beside your ear to listen to a call and you don't feel like tapping on the screen to end it, that's where this feature comes in handy. By the way, I only realised how useful it is after I wrote this, so it's not only just useful for the reader, but it also reminded me of the feature, so win-win situation, not bad.

Let's just say your residential area suddenly went through a power outage, and you don't want to suffer the bright display from your phone but still want to turn on the torch. Well, one feature from LineageOS comes in handy in this situation. You can long press the power button to turn on your torch while the display is off,.so you longer need to turn on the display, saving your eye and time.

There's an option which you can tell the phone to turn off automatically after 1, 2, 5 or 10 minutes after activating it,.or you can choose to disable the feature by selecting the "Never" option. And as you might have expected, you can turn it off by long pressing the power button while the display is off too.

So yeah, that sums up the power button features provided by LineageOS. It literally redefined that the power button is not just for turning on or off your device, but it can do some useful actions that you might have not known about at all.
