OUR COMMENDATION ON RE-OPENING OF SCHOOLS IN TIGRAY;
“Plea for urgent Rehabilitation of 7,000 damaged Education Infrastructure
& Re-integration of all disadvantaged Students”
1. On behalf of the All Africa Students Union; and conferring ETHIOPIAN HIGHER EDUCATION INSTITUTIONS STUDENTS’ UNION (EHEISU) we would like to express our sincere appreciation for the agreement between the Federal Government of Ethiopia and the Tigray Regional State Administration to return students to school. This positive development brings hope to students who have been out of school for more than two years due to the conflict in the region.
2. As African Students’ leaders, we understand the importance of education in the growth and development of our continent. It is through education that we can build a peaceful and prosperous Africa. Therefore, we commend the efforts of the Ethiopian government and the Tigray Regional State Administration in ensuring that students can return to school and continue their education.
3. We also recognize that the return of students to school is a crucial step towards peace and stability in the region. Education plays a significant role in building peace and reconciliation, and it is through education that we can create a brighter future for all.
4. However, we are also aware of the damage caused to schools and universities in the region due to the conflict. We urge the Federal Government of Ethiopia and the Tigray Regional State Administration to take immediate action to reconstruct or rebuild these damaged facilities as soon as possible, to ensure that students have access to the necessary facilities for their education.
5. As African Students leaders, we are committed to promoting education and peace on the continent. We will continue to support initiatives that ensure access to education for all students and promote peaceful coexistence among different communities.
6. Once again, we would like to express our gratitude for the efforts made by the Federal Government of Ethiopia and the Tigray Regional State Administration to return students to school. We look forward to working together towards a brighter future for Africa.
