Narrated Abu Huraira:
I heard Allah's Apostle (p.b.u.h) saying, "We (Muslims) are the last (to come) but (will be) the foremost on the Day of Resurrection though the former nations were given the Holy Scriptures before us. And this was their day (Friday) the celebration of which was made compulsory for them but they differed about it. So Allah gave us the guidance for it (Friday) and all the other people are behind us in this respect: the Jews' (holy day is) tomorrow (i.e. Saturday) and the Christians' (is) the day after tomorrow (i.e. Sunday)."

The legislated Tawassul is through Tawheed and obedience.

Seeking Allah’s response to supplication (tawassul) is done through Tawheed and obedience to Allah, not through intercessors in the graves as done by the Mushrikeen.

When Yunus عليه السلام was in the belly of the whale he made Tawassul.

Allah says:

ِ فَنَادَىٰ فِي الظُّلُمَاتِ أَن لَّا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا أَنتَ سُبْحَانَكَ إِنِّي كُنتُ مِنَ الظَّالِمِينَ
فَاسْتَجَبْنَا لَهُ

"But he cried through the darkness (saying): La ilaha illa Anta [none has the right to be worshipped but You (O Allah)], Glorified are You. Truly, I have been of the wrong-doers."
"So We answered his call"


Yunus made Tawassul to Allah through Tawheed when he said:

"none has the right to be worshipped but You (O Allah)"

And he made Tawassul to Allah by praising Allah when he said:

"Glorified are you"

And he made Tawassul to Allah by acknowledging his sins when he said:

"I have been of the wrong-doers"

And so Allah answered his Dua.
