መቅረዝና በሀዋሳ ከተማ የሚገኘው "ተስፋ ነኝ ቤተሰብ" ለበጎ ስራ የተቋቋመ ህብረት በጋራ በመሆን በነገው ዕለት ከሌዊ ሆቴል ፒያሳ ፊት ለፊት በሚገኘው ቆንጀ ቡና አዳራሽ ዝግጅታቸውን ያከናውናሉ። የዚኛው መርሃ ግብር አላማ የክረምት በጎ ስራን ማስጀመር ሲሆን ንቁና ብቁ ትውልድን እንፍጠር በሚል መሪ ቃልም ይካሄዳል። በዝግጅቱም በመቅረዝ የኪነ-ጥበብ አፍቃርያን ህብረት እንደ ግጥም ወግ ሙዚቃና ሙዚቃዊ ተውኔት ያሉ የተለያዩ የኪነ-ጥበብ ስራዎች የሚያቀርቡ ሲሆን ውይይት፤ ጥሪ የተደረገላቸው እንግዶች የተሞክሮ ቃለ መጠይቅ፤ የገቢ ማሰባሰቢያ መርሃ ግብሮችም እንዲሁ ይካሄዳሉ። በዚም የሚገኘው ገቢ ሙሉ በሙሉ እርዳታን ለሚሹ ወገኖቸ የሚውል ይሆናል።
መቅረዛውያን በተማሩትና በተሰጣቸው አደራ መሰረት በትምህርት ግዜ ብቻ ሳይሆን በክረምቱም ባሉበት ሁሉ በጎ ስራዎች ላይ በመሳተፍ ግዚያቸውን እየተጠቀሙበትም እየጠቀሙበትም ይገኛሉ።

Landslide Disaster in Southern Ethiopia
A landslide is a mass of rock, earth, or debris that moves down a slope. They are often triggered by heavy rain, earthquakes, or volcanic eruptions. Landslides can cause widespread destruction, burying homes, buildings, and infrastructure.
On July 22, 2024, a devastating landslide struck the Kencho Shacha Gozdi Kebele in Geze Gofa District Gofa Zone, southern Ethiopia, killing over 200 people and the number may increase due to continued searching. The landslide happened in two rounds: the first triggered by heavy rains, followed by a second one that tragically buried people who had gathered to help. This disaster highlights the urgent need for early warning systems and research in this landslide-prone region.
Geological Society of Hawassa University wishes to offer condolences to all the families who lost their loved ones in this disaster.

Our exceptional students, Siham Ahmed, Yididya Melaku, and Misganaw Temesgien, guided by their instructor Befekadu Deriba, have made history in their first-time participation in the Christof Heyns Moot Court Competition in Rwanda.

We are excited to inform you about the government's new initiative, "5 Million Ethiopian Coders," launched with the support of partners. This initiative aims to provide free access to ICT-related courses through the Udacity platform, known for its high-quality, in-depth courses in programming, data science, artificial intelligence, and more.
Students and teachers can take advantage of this unique opportunity to enroll in these courses at no cost, which would otherwise be significantly expensive in USD. By participating in this program, our education community can enhance their skills and become highly competitive in the global market. The ultimate goal is not just to complete the courses but to achieve certification from Udacity, which is recognized by international organizations and can greatly enhance career prospects.
To facilitate access, we have prepared step-by-step guidelines and a video tutorial on how to register on the system and enroll in the courses.
