1964 - A touching and telling account from a Londoner who's discussing the loss of community and well-being that came with the building of high-rise flats south of the river. From community to gardens, the people of #London lost far more than they gained when block building replaced the culturally pleasing houses people were so used to. Though personal standards improved, these would have been gained by improving the houses and rebuilding new ones as opposed to laying the foundations of modernity. In one breath, he's glad to see homes being built for people after the war. But then he goes on to discuss the baron nature of the estates. Progress has become a dirty word. There is no "gdp" or "progress" if we grow apart as a result.

The fact that many schools in the western world provide I-pads to children as part of their school life highlights why, among many other reasons, our youth are less articulate, whitty, and respectful than ever before.

Think of your favourite time in history, or even a fictional series or film like that of the spaghetti westerns. Now imagine them all staring at their phones every five seconds. That's how silly we all look.

#RIP to the 'Don Cossack', working class pub at 166 Delce Rd, #Rochester, #Kent, #ME1. The building is now the Jasmine Garden chinese takeaway. When you walk past a lost, down to earth, real pub like this, it's easy to forget that just because it wasn't a part of your life personally doesn't mean that it will not mean, or have meant a great deal to a great many people. β°οΈ @BritainsPubs
