Very soon, there will be no-one left to remember the simple ways of the good old days.

Anyone who knows me personally knows that I love canal/narrow boats, and obviously, pubs. So when I see them or experience them together, I am absolutely overwhelmed by the beautiful feeling that I am still a part of the living edifice, that is merry England.

The England I see in my dreams

The life and death of Britain in one photograph. Hetty Scott at her greengrocer stall outside 159 Queen’s Crescent, #KentishTown, 1914. You'll see the death of her trade and many like her by looking at the shop behind her. So began the undercutting of private traders.

Ask her if you can take her for a "succulent Chinese meal." If she smiles, you know she's the one.

TO THOSE ATTENTING THIS WEEKEND'S PUB/HISTORY TOUR 🚨

We will be meeting at #Rotherhithe station, but be aware that you can also arrive at #Bermondsey station via the Jubilee line. But this is a good 10/15 minute walk from Rotherhithe station. If this is easier for you, please keep this in mind as Rotherhithe is on the London Overground. #CanadaWater, which is also on the Jubilee line is registered as a 12 minute walk to Rotherhithe station, so that may be an easier option for you. Most will probably just use the train to get straight to Rotherhithe, but I thought I'd make you aware of these options. Be sure to eat before we start and prepare for a day of historic interest with drinks thrown in. We look forward to seeing you on Saturday morning and thank everyone who intends to attend as well as everyone who's already come on these tours. See you all soon.

Myself and PubMaverik at my favourite public house in #Manchester, the Pevril Of The Peak. This historic relic served the working people of industrial Manchester just as it does various walks of life today. Our pubs are treasures which are becoming more and more rare. Love them while you can and be in no doubt that it's thanks to Britain's lost and living pubs that the people of these glorious Isles formed the bonds, strength, and humour we're known for across the world. This pub was built around 1820 and remodelled in 1900 through a Arts and Crafts-influenced scheme which is why it has hand-painted tiles, stained glass, and intricate woodworking, providing a homely, wholesome, and comforting ora that contrasts with the modernity that surrounds it. If you're in Manchester, don't go to the ugly bars and newbuilds but instead venture into its glorious pubs to give them service and to experience the very buildings that served those who came before us. @britainspubs

It's crushing to think that today's children won't ever understand the comfort that derove from seeing things such as antimacassars on the back of Nannies best chair.
