πŸ”†The 17th Asia and the Pacific Regional Meeting (APRM) of the International Labour Organization (ILO) was organised in Singapore.

βœ…The APRM discussed issues affecting employment and the world of work in Asia, the Pacific and Arab States.

βœ…The meeting concluded with participants agreeing to bolster efforts to achieve social justice and decent work for all

βœ…It sets ten-point priorities of national action for the member countries to deal with the issue of dwindling wages of workers, inflation and unemployment.

βœ…The declaration said social dialogue is key to building trust, and resilient labour market institutions are essential to sustained recovery, inclusive and sustainable growth, and need to be strengthened in the regions

βœ…It calls for action to:

πŸ”°To close gender gaps;

πŸ”°To consider the ratification and effective implementation of related international labour standards;

πŸ”°Accelerate the transition from the informal to formal economy;

βœ…The 4-day meeting of G20 Development Working Group (DWG) will begin on December 13, 2022 in Mumbai under the India's Presidency.

βœ…The Development Working Group meetings aims to discuss developmental issues in Developing Countries, Least Developed Countries and Island Countries.

βœ…Its a platform for G-20 member countries to come together and prioritize multilateralism, share solutions that promote growth, remap development plans and achieve the Sustainable Development Goal’s targets.

βœ…In these meetings, sessions on Data For Development, Role of G-20 in Advancing the 2030 Agenda, Infusing New LiFE into Green Development and Accelerating Progress on the Sustainable Development Goals are organised.

πŸ“G20 Finance and Central Bank Deputies (FCBD) meeting:

βœ…The first G20 Finance and Central Bank Deputies (FCBD) meeting will begin on December 12, 2022 in Bengaluru.

βœ…This meeting, which will mark the start of discussions on the Finance Track agenda under the Indian G20 Presidency, will be hosted jointly by the Ministry of Finance and the Reserve Bank of India.

βœ…The discussions during the 3-day meeting will focus on the agenda for the Finance Track under the Indian G20 Presidency.

βœ…This includes reorienting international financial institutions to meet the shared global challenges of the 21st century, financing cities of tomorrow, managing global debt vulnerabilities, advancing financial inclusion and productivity gains, financing for climate action and SDGs.

πŸ”†Why Chinese PLA troops target Yangtse, one of 25 contested areas

In News:

βœ…Yangtse in the Tawang sector of Arunachal Pradesh has been repeatedly targeted by Chinese PLA troops, seeking to dislodge Indian troops from vantage points.

πŸ“Twang Sector: a contested area

βœ…Soldiers of the two sides clashed in an area called Yangtse, in the upper reaches of Tawang sector in Arunachal Pradesh.

βœ…Tawang, indeed nearly all of Arunachal, is claimed by China.

βœ…It is one of the more serious dispute points between India and China in the overall border question.
Within Tawang, there are three agreed areas of differing Indian and Chinese perceptions of the LAC.

βœ…A majority of these areas – Yangtse included – were identified by the two sides during multiple meetings. This includes:
Joint Working Group (JWG) in the 1990s, during exchange of maps for the Middle Sector in 2000, and comparison of maps for the Western Sector in 2002.

βœ…The remaining contested areas were identified over a period of time due to PLA actions.

βœ… India is holding the presidency of United Nations Security Council for the month of December 2022.

πŸ“(UNSC):

βœ…The United Nations Charter established six main organs of the United Nations, including the UN Security Council (UNSC).

βœ…UNSC has the primary responsibility for the maintenance of international peace and security.

βœ…Under the Charter of the United Nations, all Member States are obligated to comply with Council decisions.

βœ…The Security Council takes the lead in determining the existence of a threat to the peace or act of aggression.

βœ…The Security Council has permanent residence at the United Nations Headquarters in New York City.

βœ…Powers:
πŸ”°Establishment of peacekeeping operations
πŸ”°Establishment of international sanctions
πŸ”°Authorization of military action through Security Council resolutions

βœ…Members:
The U.N. Charter provides for 15 members on the UNSC:
πŸ”°5 permanent members known as P5, including United Kingdom, China, France, Russia and the US.

πŸ”°They have veto power over decisions of UNSC.

πŸ”°10 non-permanent members

βœ…UNSC non-permanent membership:
Each year the 193-member General Assembly elects five non-permanent members for a two-year term at the UNSC.
