One Sun, One World, One Grid (OSOWOG) Initiative:

โœ…The idea for the OSOWOG initiative was put forth by the Prime Minister of India, at the First Assembly of the International Solar Alliance (ISA) in October 2018.
โœ…The initiative aims at connecting energy supply across borders.
โœ…Vision: It aims to connect different regional grids through a common grid that will be used to transfer renewable energy power and, thus, realise the potential of renewable energy sources, especially solar energy.
โœ…The project is being spearheaded by the governments of India and the UK in partnership with the International Solar Alliance (ISA) and the World Bank Group.
โœ…It will bring together a global coalition of national governments, international financial and technical organisations, legislators, power system operators and knowledge leaders to accelerate the construction of the of the new infrastructure needed for a world powered by clean energy.

๐Ÿ”†During the 18th G20 Summit, held in India, the African Union (AU) was admitted as a new member of the G20.

โœ…The idea germinated after the โ€˜Voice of the Global Southโ€™ Summit in January 2023, in which most of the African Unionโ€™s 55 countries had participated.
So far, only one country from the grouping โ€” South Africa โ€“ was part of the G20.

๐Ÿ“African Union

โœ…The AU is an intergovernmental organization consisting of the 55 member states that make up the countries of the African Continent.

โœ…It was officially launched in 2002 as a successor to the Organisation of African Unity (OAU, 1963-1999).

โœ…The AUโ€™s headquarters are in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

โœ…The AU is guided by its vision of โ€œAn Integrated, Prosperous and Peaceful Africa, driven by its own citizens and representing a dynamic force in the global arena.โ€

โœ…A deadline of 2063 has been set to achieve this mission, representing the centenary of the OAU's formation.

๐Ÿ”†Johannesburg II Declaration

โœ… The 15th BRICS summit in Johannesburg, South Africa expanded the groupโ€™s membership to a broader bloc of emerging market and developing countries (EMDC).
โœ… The Johannesburg II Declaration, called for attention to economic vulnerabilities such as high debt levels in some countries due to trade fragmentation and sharp monetary tightening in advanced economies.
โœ… Multilateral financial institutions and development banks need to build economic policies which safeguard long-term financial stability.
โœ… It highlighted the key role played by the New Development Bank (NDB) or โ€œBRICS Bankโ€ in providing and maintaining effective financial solutions to sustainable development.
โœ… The BRICS declaration emphasised the need for continued cooperation on transition finance along with leveraging technology to address climate data gaps.
โœ… While emphasising the importance of implementation of the Paris Agreement, the member countries reiterated the principle of Common but Differentiated Responsibilities and Respective Capabilities (CBDR-RC).
โœ… The member countries have placed a reminder for the developed countries to honour their commitments such as mobilisation of $100 billion by 2020 and through 2025 to support climate action in developing countries, doubling of adaptation finance by 2025 from the base of 2019 and grant-based, concessional financial support.
๐Ÿ”†Facilitating African Unionโ€™s entry to G20 was a Masterstroke of India's Presidency.
