The Skvader is a well known hoax in Sweden that was created by taxidermist Rudolf Granberg in 1918. The front half of the creature is from an eastern hare and the back end and legs are from a female wood grouse.
The original story of the Skvader comes from a hunting story told by a man named Håkan Dahlmark. Dahlmark claimed that he shot a creature that was half rabbit and half bird in 1874. He clamed he was hunting north of Sundsvall when he came across the beast.
In 1907, Dahlmark’s housekeeper presented him with a painting of the creature made by her nephew. He donated the painting to a local museum in 1912, shortly before his death. The painting and taxidermy Skvader both reside in the museum at Norra Berget in Sundsvall, Sweden.
