Hermaphroditus was the child of the gods Hermes and Aphrodite and an intersex deity. Hermaphroditus is the god of androgyny and effeminate men.
Hermaphroditus, in Greek myth, was the son of Hermes and Aphrodite. The water-nymph Salmacis seeing him bathing in a pool, fell in love with him and tried to win over the beautiful Hermaphroditus with her seductive gestures but he rejected her. However, Salmacis seized the opportunity while he was bathing to cling to him while she cried up to the heavens, “O gods above, never let this youth and me part! Let us always be one!” In response the gods interpreted her request literally and joined the pair into one body, a blend of male and female, forever intertwined.
