Rant Post Aster medicity

Pretty sad situation.
My friend’s mother-in-law has Parkinson’s, and she was advised to go to Aster Medcity by a doctor — who, I suspect, is also earning a commission.

Now, the consultant there is proposing a ₹25 lakh surgery to “stimulate the brain,” and somehow convinced the mother-in-law that it’s necessary. The problem is, my friend’s situation is dire. He’s in his early 40s, his wife is pregnant, and they’ve spent their entire lives repaying the debts — in crores — that his late father irresponsibly left behind. They don’t even own a house and are barely surviving on credit cards.

This so-called consultant had the audacity to tell the mother-in-law that since her sons are abroad, it’s their duty to pay for the surgery — which, by the way, isn’t even a cure but just some brain-stimulation procedure. Now, the mother-in-law insists on going through with it, using emotional arguments, without thinking about the pregnant wife or the financial and psychological toll on my friend.

I don’t even want to write to Aster Medcity because I know it’ll do nothing — but I genuinely hope that all the greedy people involved in this — the hospital staff, doctors, and consultants — have their future generations face the same suffering they’ve caused to others.

Anto Augustine of Muttil, the man who rose from the illegal timber yards of Wayanad to the glossy studios of Reporter TV, and now to the fantasy league of international football, is back in the headlines.

The same Anto whose name once echoed through the Muttil timber felling case, that landmark in Kerala’s forest loot saga, now dreams not of rosewood, but of Rosario.
From chopping down trees to chopping up truth, Anto’s rise is a masterclass in opportunism. He didn’t become a journalist. Instead, he founded a news channel to teach journalism his way: loud, loyal, and lucratively flexible. The kind of newsroom where the syllabus begins with “spin” and ends with “sponsorship.”
And now comes his magnum opus of sponsoring Lionel Messi’s friendly match in Kochi, a spectacle that exists only in suspended animation. The stadium’s getting a facelift, money flows like varnish over termite wood, but there’s still no Messi, no Argentina, and not even a signed contract. The only confirmed arrivals are painters, contractors, and a few politicians sniffing for photo-ops — led by Kerala’s ever-trusting Sports Minister V. Abdurahman, who took Anto’s fantasy for fact and ended up the most humble believer turned fool in this grand theatre of illusion.
Perhaps Anto should drop the Argentine fantasy and return to his roots: field a team of woodcutters, maybe the proud heirs of forest brigand Veerappan. Let the Muttil Axemen FC take on a Kerala XI of bureaucrats who once cleared timber passes for him. That’s a match worth watching with real grit, real sweat, and fewer lies.
Meanwhile, the Nehru Stadium gleams like a stage awaiting a ghost act. Every bolt polished, every seat painted for a match that may never happen. Anto’s press notes speak of Messi’s “commitment,” but commitment, like conscience, is a luxury not everyone can afford.
From Muttil’s sawmills to Messi’s stadium, Anto Augustine’s story is Kerala’s most entertaining satire. This man, once stripped of forests, now strips logic bare, selling dreams as thick as rosewood planks.
So here’s to Anto, the prophet of pomp, patron saint of suspended animation. When Messi doesn’t land, expect the grand announcement:
“Match postponed. Waiting for government sanction and divine confirmation.”
