Today I witnessed an accident and realized something important

So today, something happened right in front of me that I can’t stop thinking about.

I was on my scooter behind a lorry on a two-way road. It was night, raining, no streetlights—basically zero visibility. Out of nowhere, I saw something sliding from the opposite lane. It was a bike. For a second, I thought it had crashed into the lorry in front of me.

I immediately put my scooter’s hazard lights on since there was a car behind me and then pulled over. That’s when I realized what had actually happened: the biker had hit an elderly man riding a bicycle. The place was dark, bushes all around, and the cycle didn’t have proper reflectors or a light.

The old man fell and was asking for help. Suddenly, a "nattukaran" appeared and started helping. I went too, and mainly helped the biker lift his bike and park it safely on the side.

While helping, I told the "appapan" that the biker probably couldn’t see him properly because of the darkness and lack of streetlights. But the old man shouted at me. Then the "nattukaran" also scolded me, saying I shouldn’t say such things to the old man, and kept repeating my words loudly to others, making it sound like I was defending the biker.

Even the biker himself admitted he didn’t see the man properly. But at that point, I felt like people might turn against me for speaking up. So, after helping, I quietly left the scene.

What I learned today: Never give your perspective at an accident scene. Just help, keep your head down, and move on.

Worried about safety of my daughter

I created this profile to ask anonymously regarding below issue .

My daughter is enrolled in a a college and staying at a hostel. I am in dubai . Yestersday I got info from the warden that she went out of the hostel and met with a guy she had contact with on Instagram. On questioning her we got some disturbing info .This guy is the reason I sent my daughter to kerala. When she was studying here in dubai this guy was in contact with her. She was a minor at the time and he said was working in a company here . I got hold of his dubai number and confronted him and he replied that he knew my daughter is a minor. We did not report at the time as we did not know what to do. After her 12th we enrolled her in college in kerala hoping she will not contact this guy anymore.

Now we know this guy is in Kerala an in contact with my daughter. Yesterday was the first time she met this guy in person and this guy did not seem like a guy with a job in Dubai. He did not have any money and my daughter said she paid for the food at he place they met .He made her take 10k out of her account and give him . She did not tell me this I was later I relaised she has widhrawn 10K from her account . On confronting her she revealed that this guy asked her the money and she gave it. I am terrified about the situation. I am worried now that this guy knows her location or even worse if this is some kind of trafficking / blackmail situation. My daughter revealed alll this only on intense questioning and she says she will not see him again and has deleted his number. I need some help on where I can get support . I am scared to report to police as I dont know if this is some crazy guy since he knows where my daughter is. I know my daughter is at fault for revealing her location and contact but how can I protect her.

Kuriakose = Kyriakos 🤯

While watching a stand-up comedy a Greek guy introduced himself as Kyriakos and I was like… wait, that sounds exactly like Kuriakose, which is such a common name among Kerala Christians.

Did a bit of googling and yup, it’s the same name carried through different languages:

Greek: Kyriakos (Κυριακός)

Latin: Cyriacus

Syriac/Aramaic: Quryāqos (ܩܘܪܝܐܩܘܣ)

Malayalam: Kuriakose → often shortened to Kurian / Kuria

Pretty wild to see how a Greek name traveled all the way here through Syriac influence and stuck around in everyday use.

Now I’m wondering are there other common Kerala names with these kinds of foreign connections that we don’t usually think about?
