People here who are chettans and chechis (who have younger siblings),what do you call them apart from their name?

We're 2 sisters at home and because the age difference is just 3, it's mostly just 'edi or eda' depending on sneham at the moment 😂 and ofcourse our house petnames. So curious to know about you people.

Why salary rate is very less for white collar Jobs in kerala.

My friend who studied M.com working in abroad decided to resign and come to kerala to look after old parents.
We was shocked that most of the private companies are offering accountant from 8000-15000. He is earning 2 lakhs per month in Dubai. Now he is rethinking the decision.
One of my friend is working as civil engineer for 20000.
I came to know one contractor in Middle East. He said his company paying millions to consultancy company in kerala for designing . But that company is paying only 15000 to 25000 for the junior architects / draughtsman.

Does malayalam not exist for 11th and 12th in india?

My mom has enrolled herself in some center to finish her her higher education. She recently called me - asking for help in doing her assignments - in English.

Her classes are in malayalam, she claims the exams will be written in malayalam.

But the assignments have to be completed in English, she claims the textbooks are also in English. That textbooks for 11th and 12th don't exist in English (guides exists, which is what the teachers use to teach)

Can someone explain what the fuck is going on?

Edit : she doesn't speak English, she claims that even for "malayalam medium" the assignments have to be written in English.

Is it weird to call your partner മോളെ.. affectionately?

Just a thought I had, cos the word is originally used by parents to call their daughters. Do girls find it weird or do they like it? Similarly women call their husbands ഏട്ടാ which translates to elder brother but ig thats more normalised. Any guys who find that weird too?

COLLEGE ADMISSIONS: Indian national with American passport

My brother is an American citizen but he has Indian birth certificate. He was born here, has aadhar card, studied here and all. In his school records his nationality was mentioned as American, but mom changed it to Indian. So in his Transfer certificate it is mentioned Indian.. She was a bit confused whether it would create problems in future. So bro wrote Keam ,but we mentioned as indian. So college admissions also he's going to apply as Indian ,since he is OCI.. Recently we found out that for MNCs while joining, they would have to submit the passport.. Bro has a US passport. Won't that create problems for campus placement,,? Since in the college admissions it would be Indian and while sitting for placements he would have to mention American. If we applied as American in Btech colleges here, that would create complications .. since he wouldn't be apply in either management or a merit quota.. Should we change the nationality in school transfer certificate to American or Indian with OCI. Both his parents are Indian origin.. mom is Indian, his dad has American citizenship but resides in Kerala..

Is it a good decision to build a house in Kannur/Kerala?

My family and I have been living in Mumbai ever since my parents migrated here some 30+ years ago. Now, my dad is planning to build a house at an existing plot in Kannur (almsot 1-2 hours away from the main city). We had started the planning process and initiated discussions with a builder, when some of my father's friends (all local dwellers) adviced against building a house there, citing expensive living conditions and poor ROI.

We're now second guessing our plan to go ahead with the house. My sibling and I do not have any plans to ever move to Kerala; it'll primarily be a space for our parents while we visit occasionally.

Dropping this here in an attempt to get some advice or thoughts on the matter from people who are living in Kerala. Thank you!
