Christian vote influences in this election

It can be noted that a considerable factor for Suresh Gopi winning in Thrissur is due to the votes from the Christian Population(the Syrian catholic community particularly).

Im curious though. What made the Syrian Catholic population there vote for SG in particular?. Is it mainly for their business interests considering that Trissur Catholics are mostly involved in business.

Meanwhile in Kottayam, UDF took the sweep and it was a known fact that they would win since Kottayam has always been a UDF strong hold.

Pathanamthitta too was swept by UDF, as Anto Antony has won for the 3rd time there and he is a obviously a favourite among all the Christian sects in Pathanamthitta. Even though he is a Syro Malabar Catholic, he is a favourite among the christian population there(as Syro Malabar Catholics are almost negligible in Pathanamthitta and the historical mindset divide between Puthenkootar christians and Pazhayakootar Syro Malabar Catholic Christians).

Also I'm curious will the Christians in Pathanamthitta and Kottayam ever vote a BJP candidate into power.?

And the Latin Catholic Church community has kept their faith in UDF by electing Tharoor in Trivandrum and Hibi Eden(who is also from the latin catholic community) in Ernakulam.

What could be reason for left decline in LS polls.

2019 election failure for LDF could be attributed to RaGa wave, but lightning for sure can’t strike twice. I am genuinely surprised by the performance of LDF in this election and for a party that has such a good cadre strength and following , this result should be unacceptable .

I felt LDF did all they can do to win over votes this time compared to 2019 and still couldn’t improve their seats. This should set alarm bells ringing among leadership hopefully.

Here are few things that I believe are damaging LDF’s perception among people.

1. SFI

SFI’s activism recently has only gotten bad impression among general public. Death of Siddarthan has been very damaging to the goodwill of party. Problems with SFI has been surfacing for more than couple of years now and it’s not been addressed correctly. LDF leadership should do a cleanup job of SFI . Please put sensible people in command and control of SFI

2. Communication

Malayalis are adept at understanding who is speaking in a tone of arrogance and who is speaking in a level headed manner. I felt communication of the top brass : PV, Govindan , EP etc on various recent issues were having an underlying tone of arrogance and indifference.


You can’t speak the same way while you are in government as you do when you are in opposition.


3. Poor performance of ministers compared to first term

There has been many controversies in this term compared to previous term where the ministers have gotten a lot of negative publicity for the government significantly increasing the anti incumbency.

There has to be a reshuffle and some change of guard to win back public support or its going to be a really bad 2026 for the party.

4. Unnecessary intrusion to Muslim vote bank

LDF’s attempt to woo the muslim vote bank by destabilising the muslim league has become a boomerang for them. This has only led to even more consolation of votes for muslim league and has reduced the vote share that LDF used to get from Muslims

LDF should understand that these shortcut techniques won’t work in the long run.
