“PRESIDENT CAN BE REMOVED FROM OFFICE. I CAN TELL YOU HOW.”

Aleksandr Lukashenko told the recipe of changing government in Belarus as he received the credentials from foreign ambassadors.

“I want to say that the Belarusian president can be removed from office. It can be done. I can tell you how. There is only one way: it is only the Belarusian people that can do it on the basis of the current laws and the Belarusian Constitution. As you can see, the answer to all the questions that Western diplomats in Belarus, those in the West and also Belarusians who have fled the country are preoccupied with today is very simple.”

TSIKHANOUSKAYA IS IN TOP-100 WOMEN OF THE YEAR ● The BBC has revealed its list of 100 inspiring and influential women from around the world for 2020.

This year 100 Women is highlighting those who are leading change and making a difference during these turbulent times, BBC explains. Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya is presented in “Leadership” category.

“Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya is a former presidential candidate in Belarus, where she led a national democratic movement. In August 2020, President Alexander Lukashenko claimed a landslide victory in the leadership election, sparking protests across the country amid widespread accusations of vote-rigging. Shortly after the election, fearing for the safety of her children, Sviatlana fled Belarus for Lithuania. She continues to lead the democratic movement in exile,” Tsikhanouskaya’s card tells.

BBC also quoted Sviatlana’s words: “Never, for one second, believe anyone who says you are weak. We often don't realise how strong we are.”

The list also features Sanna Marin, who leads Finland's all-female coalition government, Michelle Yeoh, star of the new Avatar and Marvel films and Sarah Gilbert, who heads the Oxford University research into a coronavirus vaccine, as well as Jane Fonda, a climate activist and actress. And in an extraordinary year - when countless women around the world have made sacrifices to help others - one name on the 100 Women list has been left blank as a tribute.

Meanwhile, no one was detained for beating Raman Bandarenka; moreover, no criminal case was opened.
Aleksandr Lukashenko and Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya on independent journalism:

LUKASHENKO: “The press, including the so-called new media, become an instrument that unscrupulous politicians and political technologists use to achieve their ambitions. Unconstrained by things like objectivity, honesty, and morals, they threaten our historical, cultural, universal human values, informational sovereignty, and statehood.”

He wants the members of the pro-regime Belarusian Union of Journalists to find a way to counter the aggressive destructive influence on the minds of Belarusians: “This is the line of defence that we must hold together in the year that marks the 75th anniversary of the Great Victory. In honour of our ancestors who gave our homeland peace and freedom, we are obligated to protect the nation from the extremism and radicalism of the new times.”

TSIKHANOUSKAYA: “Even at war the ‘press’ vest marks an untouchable person. They don't touch journalists as well as medics even in the hottest warzones but not in Belarus because the regime doesn't need honest journalism.

Peaceful Belarusians aren't part of the regime. We know that the journalists from the independent media are heroes. The countries of Europe know it as well and are ready to support the journalists of Belarus: both those who had to leave the country and those who bravely fight for the truth on the streets of our cities. Thanks to the independent media, the Oxford Dictionary named the word Belarusian the word of August.

And most importantly, thanks to the independent media, the entire world knows about the terror of this regime and about everything that the Belarusians do to live in a new free country.”

Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergey Lavrov has visited Aleksandr Lukashenko.

“First of all, I would like to convey you the best wishes from Vladimir Vladimirovich [Putin]. He has confirmed everything you had agreed with him before, especially in Sochi,” Sergey Lavrov said.

The head of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs recalled that earlier the Belarusian head of state put forward several initiatives. According to the minister, they are very important for the Belarusian society. “As President Putin has repeatedly stressed, we are interested to see these initiatives get through. If we can do something to support them, we are always open for this,” Lavrov added.

Translated from Soviet Russian into English, it means: hey, how's your constitutional reform going?
Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya has commented on Lukashenko's agreements with Russia:

“No matter what Aleksandr Lukashenko may agree to, he has lost the support of the Belarusian people. This means that all his deals and agreements will be reviewed and canceled by the new government.

We have always advocated and continue to advocate friendly and partnership relations with Russia. But independence and sovereignty cannot be bargained for.”
