About 1.200 IT professionals moved to Ukraine from Belarus since the protests began. This number was quoted by Alexander Bornyakov, Deputy Minister of Digital Transformation of Ukraine. He added that the number keeps growing because “the situation [in Belarus] isn't getting calmer.”
Ukraine is not the only country that Belarusians move to to escape the political crisis. Around 800 IT professionals moved to Poland. There are many more people who want to join them but there are problems with visa applications processing due to the recall of the diplomats.

Dmitry Balaba: "If we have to use live ammunition, of course it will be done."
The head of the Minsk riot police joined the head of the Organized Crime department in talking about using live ammunition against protesters the very same day.
In an interview to STV (a state-owned TV channel) Balaba said: “Regarding using weapons, once again: as police officers we will use all other possible methods before using firearms. But if we have to use live ammunition, of course it will be done.”
Balaba also mentioned that the riot policemen try to avoid unnecessary damage when arresting people: “The officers try to work carefully and precisely, trying to injure the perpetrators as little as possible. This is how it is, no matter how much some channels try to show us the opposite.”
