Dog lovers are politically activated now. They are taking out rallies. This video is a scene from West Delhi today. I am sure it must be happening in other cities also.
Its a major comment on Indian middle class in cities - their ethics, their interests, their priorities, their concerns.
It's not Trump tariffs and threat to our economy. Its not Alaska meeting. Its not Gaza city. Its not SIR controversy. Its not demography mission. Its not GST. Its not rain in Bombay. Its not landslide in Himalayas. Its not NCERT textbooks for our children. Its not AI...
It took stray dogs menace to make our people politically active on streets.
May be I am totally out of touch with the world inhabited by the dog lovers. Its an alternate reality for me.

Weβre hosting Anirudh Kanisetti. He is an extremely interesting public historian of the new generation. His podcasts, his books and his columns in Print are very educative.
Recently, he has written a book on Cholas. Chola empire is a very important topic in our syllabus. In both GS Prelims, GS Mains and History Optional we regularly get questions on Cholas. Either on the Dravidian temple architecture (UNESCO sites), Nataraja murti, marvelous local-self government or on their naval campaign in SE Asia. Just a couple of weeks ago, PM Modi also unveiled a stamp in the memory of Chola achievements.
Anirudh is coming offline for a session at LevelUp IAS on 26th. We will ask him a lot of questions on Cholas and try to understand his unique perspective. Do attend to ask him all the questions yourself. I am sure it will be damn interesting.

The ground level staff of the MCD is merely doing their duty. They were responding to the situation of dog bite. And they have threat to their life now.
From dog terror to dog lovers' terror. We have travelled a long distance.
Violent shvaan-rakshak gangs are emerging in the city now. Its difficult for MCD to enter such areas becuase rabid dogs get protection there. In response, MCD dog catchers now demand police protection while entering. Its might become civil war-like situation...
Remember, last year there were about 70,000 dog bites in Delhi and about 70-80 deaths due to rabies. In one city alone. As Gandhi would say in Gujarati, "Aa Tu Jeevdaya?" (Is this your compassion?)

Do you think that the civil war threat is a joke, a light hearted comment?
Do you think that the Supreme Court order, present or future, will be able to solve the rabid dog problem?
Wait for my video on this...:)

This news came in PTI. Extremely disturbing.
What is happening to the world? She was merely 20 years old. Not even eligible yet to appear for the UPSC. She just seems to have started her preparation and would have given her first attempt in 2026 or 2027. But now she will not.
In the last one month, two students in Sharda University appear to have committed suicides as per Indian Express news. One was doing BDS and the other some engineering course. Reason again was given similar - pressure and stress.
I really don't understand. Such news appear to be more frequent from across the nation now.
I think this is a new generation coming up which had done their schooling during Covid years. These people are shaped differently. They think differently. Their sensitivities are different.
I may be totally wrong here, but I really think we need to make more efforts to understand them.
Om Shanti.

Dog lovers' terror reaches new level now. Not only attack on MCD workers but also physically assaulted the CM.
It was not out of emotionally charged moment. He travelled to Delhi from Gujarat, did reconnaissance one day ahead, planned properly and then attacked.

Stray Dogs Issue:
SC's 11 August decision is modified. These are the new directions:
1. No need to spend tax money to build massive shelters for all stray dogs.
2. All stray dogs to be captured and vaccinated. After vaccination, to be released to the same locality.
3. If a dog is aggressive or has rabies it will not be released. Only non rabid stray dogs be released. (So human life is more important)
4. Roadside feeding is now illegal, liable to punishment. There must be dedicated feeding areas in every ward. (Implying streets are made for humans first)
5. Scope is expended nationwide and not only for Delhi anymore.
6. Those obstructing public servants in carrying out the directions will be proceeded against. (Shvan rakshak violent dog lovers gangs are illegal)
7. Promote street dogs for adoption.
My take:
1. In order to find some middle path, the Supreme Court has now given massive discretion to administration. Eventually it will be back to 'jaise the' because Municipalities in India neither have money or capacity for human safety.
2. Where is the space for dog feed in every ward? We dont have space for garbage segregating already. No space for parking... And in such common feeding area, if all dogs in one ward to come together, there will be massive dog fights. And which residents will allow creation of such spaces near their house?
3. Very few people in Delhi want street dogs as their pet. They love foreign breeds in houses. Indian breeds on road are for extra food only. (Dog Racism) This adoption scheme is a non starter.
4. We need minimum 70% plus neutering to control the dog population. In absence of which, dogs keep multiplying. So, target based KPIs for sterilization are necessary.
Finally, after some time and few more deaths, we will meet again in the court.

Recent comment by Fareed Zakaria on India-US relations. He says that Trump has undone post Cold War 25 years of sustained US diplomatic efforts to bring India in its orbit, by being so inexplicably hostile to India. Now, India will be forced to be back to its old non-alignment stance by cosying up with Russia and China more as a hedge.
