They are rattling breakfast plates in basement kitchens,
And along the trampled edges of the street
I am aware of the damp souls of housemaids
Sprouting despondently at area gates.
The brown waves of fog toss up to me
Twisted faces from the bottom of the street,
And tear from a passer-by with muddy skirts
An aimless smile that hovers in the air
And vanishes along the level of the roofs.

💭'Morning at the Window’ presents the dejected lives of lower-class city people through the observations of an upper-class speaker.
💭The theme of Morning at the Window is poverty. This poem presents a very humane picture of poor people in the slums of European cities. This poem presents a series of typical images showing poverty, depression, misery, and destitution in the slums (poor and dirty areas of the city) where the poor live.
💭In this way, the poem fits within the formal tendencies of Imagist poetry, an influential literary movement of the early 20th century that dovetailed with modernism.
💭"Damp souls” is an extremely negative phrase, clearly saying that these people are deeply unhappy. An example of the working class, is used, “housemaids”.
💭In summary, ‘Morning at the Window’ presents a series of miniature observations about modern urban life: the sound of dirty plates being rattled in basement kitchens, the housemaids hanging around outside the properties where they are employed, the brown fog (reminiscent of the dark fog in much nineteenth-century French poetry, and in fiction such as Robert Louis Stevenson’s Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde).
💭The poem is strongly influenced by the French poets Eliot had been reading, notably Charles Baudelaire and Jules Laforgue. Baudelaire, in particular, had showed Eliot how the modern city could be a fitting subject for the poet, as Eliot later recorded in his essay ‘Baudelaire’.

❤️ The sea wants to kiss the golden shore
The sunlight warms your skin
All the beauty that's been lost before
Wants to find us again
🧡 I can't fight you anymore
It's you I'm fighting for
The sea throws rocks together
But time leaves us polished stones
💛 We can't fall any further
If we can't feel ordinary love
And we cannot reach any higher
If we can't deal with ordinary love

(Sonnet 18)
Shall I compare thee to a summer’s day?
Thou art more lovely and more temperate.
Rough winds do shake the darling buds of May,
And summer’s lease hath all too short a date.
Sometime too hot the eye of heaven shines,
And often is his gold complexion dimmed;
And every fair from fair sometime declines,
By chance, or nature’s changing course, untrimmed;
But thy eternal summer shall not fade,
Nor lose possession of that fair thou ow’st,
Nor shall death brag thou wand'rest in his shade,
When in eternal lines to Time thou grow'st.
So long as men can breathe, or eyes can see,
So long lives this, and this gives life to thee.
