🎼 When I dream at night

🩷 I have been in love, and been alone
I have traveled over many miles
to find a home
there's that little place inside of me
that I never thought could
take control of everything
but now I just spend all my time
with anyone who makes me feel
the way she does

🩶 Cause I only feel alive
when I dream at night
even though she's not real
it's all right
'cause I only feel alive
when I dream at night
every move that she makes
holds my eyes
and I fall for her every time

🤍 I've so many things I want to say
I'll be ready when the perfect moment comes my way
I had never known what's right for me
'til the night she opened up my heart
and set it free
But now I just spend all my time
with anyone who makes me feel
the way she does

🩷 Now I just spend all my time
with anyone who makes me feel
the way she does

📚 The Man He Killed

“Had he and I but met
By some old ancient inn,
We should have sat us down to wet
Right many a nipperkin!

“But ranged as infantry,
And staring face to face,
I shot at him as he at me,
And killed him in his place.

“I shot him dead because_
Because he was my foe,
Just so: my foe of course he was;
That’s clear enough; although

“He thought he’d ‘list , perhaps,
Off-hand like_ just as I_
Was out of work_ had sold his traps_
No other reason why.

“Yes; quaint and curious war is!
You shoot a fellow down
You’d treat if met where any bar is,
Or help to half-a-crown."

Thomas Hardy (1840-1928)

📝 Analysis;

💭How does war affect the way soldiers view "the enemy"? In his 1902 poem, "The Man He Killed," Thomas Hardy (1840-1928) argues that war is senseless and pits good men against one another. After the speaker takes the life of an enemy soldier, he realizes that in any other circumstance, the two might have been friends. With a jarringly casual tone, "The Man He Killed" examines themes like the senselessness and futility of war and the loss of self a soldier experiences in wartime.

💭A dramatic monologue, the poem's speaker recounts having to kill a man in war with whom he had found himself "face to face." Talking casually throughout, the speaker discusses how this man could easily have been his friend, someone he might have, under different circumstances, had a drink with in an "ancient inn."

🔹Thomas Hardy OM (2 June 1840 – 11 January 1928) was an English novelist and poet. A Victorian realist in the tradition of George Eliot, he was influenced both in his novels and in his poetry by Romanticism, especially William Wordsworth. He was highly critical of much in Victorian society, especially on the declining status of rural people in Britain, such as those from his native South West England.

📚His noticeable works;

▫️While Hardy wrote poetry throughout his life and regarded himself primarily as a poet, his first collection was not published until 1898. Initially, he gained fame as the author of novels such as Far from the Madding Crowd (1874), The Mayor of Casterbridge (1886), Tess of the d'Urbervilles (1891), and Jude the Obscure (1895). During his lifetime, Hardy's poetry was acclaimed by younger poets (particularly the Georgians) who viewed him as a mentor. After his death his poems were lauded by Ezra Pound, W. H. Auden and Philip Larkin.

🎼 Dream of you
🎧 Schiller

🌸 I've been here all the time
As far as I know doing right
I've always waited for the moment
That you would come through my door
But this brought loneliness so far
I lay my hand onto my heart
Is this the life I want to live
Is this the dream I had of you?

🍃But this brought loneliness so far
I lay my hand onto my heart
Is this the life I want to live
Is this the dream I had of you...
The dream I had of you?

🌼 Now I'm standing here alone
I'm waiting on my own
For something that will fill the emptiness inside
The moment that you're mine

🍃But this is loneliness I know
I lay my hand onto my soul
Is this what life has got to give
Is this the dream I had of you...
The dream I had of you?
