💭"Success is counted sweetest" is a lyric poem by Emily Dickinson written in 1859 and published anonymously in 1864. The poem uses the images of a victorious army and one dying warrior to suggest that only one who has suffered defeat can understand success.

💭The poet asks a rhetorical question about what success is and then responds to this question in different ways. He argues that it could be that happiness is a success while at other times it could be respect and winning the respect of others. It also is to earn appreciation and winning the critic.

🔸Emily Elizabeth Dickinson was an American poet. Little-known during her life, she has since been regarded as one of the most important figures in American poetry. Dickinson was born in Amherst, Massachusetts, into a prominent family with strong ties to its community.
