▫️چارلز بوکوفسکی از مشهورترین نویسنده ها و شاعران معاصر آمریکا است و بسیاری ادعا می‌کنند که وی از بانفوذترین و صمیمی ترینِ شاعران و نویسندگان این سده، محسوب می شود. بوکوفسکی در ۱۹۲۰ میلادی در آندرناخِ آلمان متولد شد. پدرش سرباز آمریکایی و مادرش آلمانی بودند و او را سه سالگی به لس‌آنجلس در آمریکا آوردند و ۵۰ سال در همین شهر زندگی کرد. ۲۴ ساله بود که نخستین داستان کوتاه خود را منتشر کرد و در ۳۵ سالگی، نوشتن شعر را آغاز کرد.

▫️این نویسنده آلمانی‌تبار در طول ۷۳ سال زندگی بیش از هزاران شعر، صدها داستان کوتاه و ۶ رمان بلند را با اقتباس از سبک زندگی لس‌آنجلسی، فرهنگ و اقتصاد سال‌های ۱۹۴۰ تا ۱۹۹۰ میلادی آمریکا نوشت.

▫️بوکوفسکی و ورود به دنیای ادبیات
بوکوفسکی که نخستین تلاش‌های ادبی‌اش را با انتشار داستانی کوتاه در مجله داستان آغاز کرد در سال‌های بعد توانست با قلم منحصر به فردش در کنار زندگی پر فراز و نشیب خود، توجه خوانندگان بسیاری را در سراسر جهان به خود جلب کند تا آنجا که میلیون ها نسخه از آثار وی به زبان‌های یونانی، فرانسوی، آلمانی، برزیلی، اسپانیولی، ایتالیایی و فارسی ترجمه شده و مورد توجه منتقدان ادبی قرار گرفته است.

▫️وی که در ابتدای ورود جدی به دنیای ادبیات با واکنش منفی و انتقادات تند تحلیل‌گران ادبی نسبت به سبک جدیدش مواجه شده بود با انتشار آثارش به صورت زیر زمینی خیلی سریع توانست نبض جریان ادبی آمریکا را به دست گیرد و تاثیر غیرقابل انکاری بر موجی از نویسندگان جوان آن روز آمریکا داشته باشد.

▫️بوکوفسکی که به گفته خودش به دلیل داشتن برخی مشکلات خانوادگی، مثل بد دهنی و خشونت‌های پدرش پسرکی عصبی، افسرده، سرکش و یاغی بار آمده بود، توانست با انعکاس این مشکلات با زبانی آمیخته به طنزی بُرنده در اواسط دهه ۷۰ میلادی به عنوان شاعر پر فروش‌ ترین مجموعه شعرها و یکی از بزرگترین داستان کوتاه‌ نویسان آمریکا مطرح شود.

▫️وی در ۱۹۸۴ میلادی از پرفروش‌ترین نویسنده‌ های آمریکایی بود و بیش از سه میلیون نسخه از آثارش به فروش رسید. موسیقی طبیعی و گوش نواز شعر، استفاده از کلام و زبان روزمره و شعریت دادن به لحظات وحشتناک زندگی شخصی‌ اش که چیزی جدا از احساسات مبتذل و سانتیمانتالیسم رایج بود، او را نسبت به دیگر شاعران آن دوره متمایز می‌کند. سبک غیر رسمی و ناهماهنگ این نویسنده آمریکایی با رویه ادبی روز و تقدس زدایی و سادگی در شعرش، وی را در میان میلیون‌ها هوادارش محبوب کرده است.
