🌿न सीदन्नपि धर्मेण मनोऽधर्मे निवेशयेत्। अधार्मिकानां पापानामाशु पश्यन् विपर्ययम्॥

Seeing the prompt destruction of [non-righteous] Adharmis and sinners, one should not indulge his mind in wrongful tactics, even if, following the path of one's [righteous] Dharma is painful.

🌿नाधर्मश्चरितो लोके सद्यः फलति गौरिव। शनैरावर्त्यमानस्तु कर्तुर्मूलानि कृन्तति॥

[At times] Adharmic [unethical or unrighteous] actions do not produce their results immediately, just as a cow does not produce [a calf] instantly. However, when the time comes, these actions destroy their doer from their basic foundation.

🌿He who wears unclean garments, has dirty teeth, is a glutton, speaks unkindly and sleeps after sunrise - although he may be the greatest personality - will lose the favour of Lakshmi.

🌿What good is a cow that neither gives milk nor conceives? Similarly, what is the value of the birth of a son if he becomes neither learned nor a pure devotee of the Lord?

🌿The hand is not so well adorned by ornaments as by charitable offerings; one does not become clean by smearing sandalwood paste upon the body as by taking a bath; one does not become so much satisfied by dinner as by having respect shown to him; and salvation is not attained by self-adornment but by cultivation of spiritual knowledge.

Patiently bear with all you meet,

Do not keep anything which you will be afraid of showing to others. Do not do anything which you would not like others to know. In spiritual life secrecy has no place except in regard to one's sadhana.

The Yaksha asked—“What is the highest duty in the world? What is that virtue which always beareth fruit? What is that which if controlled, leadeth not to regret? And who are they with whom an alliance cannot break?”

Yudhishthira answered— “The highest of duties is to refrain from injury: the rites ordained in the Vedas always bear fruit: the mind, if controlled, leads to no regret: and an alliance with the good never breaks.”

The Yaksha asked—“What is that which, if renounced, makes one agreeable? What is that which, if renounced, leads to no regret? What is that which, if renounced, makes one wealthy? And what is that which if renounced, makes one happy?”

Yudhishthira answered—“Pride, if renounced, makes one agreeable; wrath, if renounced leads to no regret; desire, if renounced, makes one wealthy; and avarice, if renounced, makes one happy.

Because one fails to control and conquer one's mind, this tendency and urge to control and conquer others arises. Even the most powerful beings of the cosmos, may conquer everything else, yet they fail miserably when it comes to controlling the mind. Only the ones that have won their minds and risen beyond it, are the ones that truly know Me. They're indeed the rarest of the rare.

Question: When my mind wanders during meditation, in spite of my attempts to control it, should I give it up?

Bhagavan: One need not abandon meditation, thinking that it is the nature of the mind to wander. Whatever one practices becomes swabhava [one's nature]. If control is practiced persistently, that will become natural.

🌿A real prayer will never contain any suggestions, instructions or demands. The sincere devotee will simply say, ‘O Lord, I do not know what is good or what is bad for me. I am nobody—nothing. You know everything. I know whatever you do must be for the best; therefore, do as you wish.’ In real prayer you bow down, surrender and declare your helplessness to the Lord.

🌿If you try to pursue happiness, you will miss it because the search for happiness will cause discontent. Searching is bound to create turbulence within. A turbulent mind is an unhappy mind. Your search for happiness is always in the future, it is never in the present. The future is outside; the present is within. Bliss awaits you within.

The thought of God is 'Divine Favour'!

He is by nature 'Grace'.

It is by God's 'Grace' that you think of God.

🌿ADVICE FOR HOUSEHOLDERS🌿

While in a family-you should be respectful and reverential in your dealings with elders, and affectionate and loving towards those younger than yourself. Far from being disrespectful to images of gods and goddesses, householders should show reverence to them. The more a man’s mind becomes endowed with magnanimity and the more he possesses faith and reverence, the more will good accrue to him in the next birth.

The more one is engrossed in the world devoid of the sense of dharma, the more one sinks from dark to even darker regions. As a big tree grows from a small seed, so from a little sense of faith and reverence a man may by dint of his efforts realize the Self and be liberated. So also a tiny seed of sin may gradually grow until a man falls to the lowest depth, making him a dung worm.

A householder should be kind to all, but the sannyasins, who have renounced everything, should be neither kind nor cruel but indifferent, and thus work out their own liberation. Without thinking this transitory samsara real, all who lead a domestic life, should remain there as strangers, keeping ever in view the fact that there is a permanent abode of peace, different from it.

HAPPY GURU-PURNIMA

🌿Salutations to Sri Guru who shows the right path to one whose mind is deluded by attachment and thus confused in the forest of Samsara.

🌿Afflicted by the three kinds of fires, the restless creatures on earth wander aimlessly. To such people the Guru is verily the Supreme Ganga. Prostrations to such Guru.

🌿Whatever the merit is acquired from pilgrimages and bathing in the sacred water extending to the seven seas by one, cannot be equal to one-thousandth part of the merit derived from partaking the feet-washed water of the Guru.

🌿If Shiva is angry, the Guru saves you; but if the Guru is angry, even Shiva cannot save you. Therefore, with every effort, take refuge in the Guru.

🌿The syllable “Gu” is that which transcends all attributes, and the syllable “Ru” is that which is without form. The Guru is said to be the one who bestows the state that is beyond attributes (and form).

🌿O dear, Guru is the Shiva without three eyes; He is the Lord Vishnu with two hands. He is again Brahma with one face.

🌿Even the Devas, the Kinnaras, Gandharvas, Pitris Yakshas and the sages like Tumburu and others do not know the right technique of serving the Guru.

🌿People who are well versed in Tarkashastra (Logic), in the Vedic Chhanda Karmakandins (one well-versed in religious ceremonies, rites and rituals), people well versed in worldly sciences - none of them knows the pure Guru Tattva in its entirety.

🌿On account of great egotism, pride, power of tapas, and education, Jivas (individual souls) roam about in this world like the pots in a persial wheel.

🌿Neither those who perform great sacrifices, nor yogis, nor those who practice severe austerities are liberated if they are averse to Guru Tattva.

🌿Those who are averse to the service of the Guru cannot be expected to be liberated from the cycle of Samsara (birth and death), may be they are Gandharvas, Pitris, Yakshas, Rishis, Siddhas or Devas.

🌿What is the use of elaborating here? Without Guru’s infinite grace peace of mind is difficult even after studying millions of scriptures.

🌿O Mahadevi, having heard the importance of the Guru, whoever indulges in vilifying the Guru goes to terrible hells and stays there as long as the sun and moon shine on the earth.

🌿At all times and under all conditions one should feel the non duality of the Self but one should never have this feeling with his Guru.

🌿One should worship the sacred lotus feet of the Satguru till the “seen” disappears (absence of duality). To those only there is liberation and not to those who act in contradiction.

🌿Even though one is the knower of the entire truth (knower of all shastras); if he is a Guru Tyagi (abandoner of the Guru) he will face, at the time of death, great distraction.

🌿On seeing a person speaking ill of the Guru, if one is not able to cut his tongue, one should drive out that person from that place. If the person lives there, then one should leave that place.

🌿The Guru is one who instructs the disciple about attributeless, eternal Brahman, and there by reveals the Brahmanbhava (feeling of being Brahman) in his heart just like one lamp kindles another lamp is the Guru.

🌿By steadiness in the path to liberation, by seeing one’s own Self in oneself, by the practice of introspection within and by the Grace of the Guru, the Knowledge of the Self dawns in the Sadhaka.

🌿Guru is Shiva, Guru is God. Guru is the relative of all embodied beings. Guru is the Self. Guru is Jiva. There is nothing other than the Guru.

~Lord Shiva to Devi Parvati 🕉
