Brahmacharya brings material progress and psychic advancement. It is the basis for morality. It is the basis for eternal life. It is the firm support for Brahma-Nishtha, which is eagerly longed for by sages, aspirants and Yogic students. It is the shield for waging war against the internal Asuras — lust, anger and greed. It serves as a gateway to the bliss beyond. It opens the door of Moksha. It contributes to perennial joy, to the uninterrupted and undecaying bliss. Even Rishis, Devas, Gandharvas and Kinnaras serve at the feet of a true Brahmachari. Even Isvara applies to his forehead the dust of the feet of a genuine celibate.

Brahmacharya is the only key to open the Sushumna and awaken Kundalini. It brings glory, fame, virtue and Mana-Pratishtha. The eight Siddhis and the nine Riddhis roll under the feet of the true celibate. They are ever ready to obey his command. The Lord of Death, Yama flees from him. Who can describe the magnanimity, majesty and glory of a true Brahmachari!

Brahmacharyena Tapasa Deva Mrityumupagnata. The Vedas declare that by Brahmacharya and penance the Devas have conquered death. How did Hanuman become a Mahavir? It is with this weapon of Brahmacharya that he acquired unsurpassable strength and valour. The great Bhishma, the grandfather of the Pandavas and the Kauravas, conquered death by Brahmacharya. It is only Lakshman, the ideal Brahmachari, who put down Meghanada, the man of inestimable prowess, the conqueror of the three worlds, the son of Ravana. The valour and greatness of emperor Prithviraj was due to the strength of Brahmacharya. There is nothing in the three worlds that cannot be attained by a Brahmachari.

The Rishis of yore knew fully well the value of Brahmacharya and that is the reason why they sang in beautiful verses about the glory of Brahmacharya. The scriptures declare emphatically:

"Ayustejo Balam Veeryam Prajna Sreescha Yashastatha Punyamcha Sat-Priyatvamcha Vardhate Brahmacharyaya"

By the practice of Brahmacharya, longevity, glory, strength, vigour, knowledge, wealth, undying fame, virtues and devotion to the truth increase.

An Akhanda Brahmachari, who, for a period of twelve years, has not allowed even a drop of semen to come out, will enter into Samadhi without any effort. Prana and mind are under his perfect control. An Akhanda Brahmachari has strong Dharana Sakti, Smriti Sakti and Vichara Sakti — power of grasping, retentive memory and power of enquiry. He need not practice Manana and Nididhyasana, reflection and meditation. If he hears the Mahavakya even once, he will at once achieve Self-realization. His intellect is pure, and his understanding is extremely clear. You also can become like that, if you attempt in right earnest.

🌿1232nd Birth Anniversary of Adi Shankaracharya🌿

Adi Shankaracharya Jayanti is observed as birth anniversary of Indian Guru and philosopher Adi Shankara. Adi Shankara was born in Kalady which is situated in Kerala during 788 C.E. and he left his physical body at young age of 32 in year 820 C.E.

Adi Shankaracharya Jayanti is observed on Panchami Tithi during Shukla Paksha of Vaishakha month and currently falls between April and May. Shankaracharya consolidated the doctrine of Advaita Vedanta (अद्वैत वेदान्त) and revived it at a time when Hindu culture was on decline.

As we know that Shankaracharya is best remembered for his remarkable reinterpretations of Hindu scriptures and his sayings on the Vedic canon whether Brahma Sutras, principal Upanishads and Bhagavad Gita. His philosophical teachings have deeply influenced various sects of Hinduism and also contributed to the development of the thought of modern India.

From very young age, he was inclined towards spirituality and religion. With the help of his guru, he mastered all the Vedas and the six Vedangas before the age of 12. Also, while travelling he did spread spiritual knowledge and the tenets of Advaita Vedanta.

He travelled all four corners of India, did debate (shastrarth) with hundreds of philosophers all across the nation and successfully defeated them all, established 4 spiritual institutes (mutts) in each geographic direction, wrote numerous hymns and stotras in praise of Gods and Goddesses, plus many many beautiful works and books.
He left his body at a very young age of 32, despite of it he left an indelible mark on the people, methods of teaching of Vedas and development of modern thought.

Knowing that mother and father are the visible representatives of God, the householder, always and by all means, must please them. If the mother is pleased, and the father, God is pleased with the man. That child is really a good child who never speaks harsh words to his parents.

🌿Spiritualize your breathing🌿

Inhale, and God approaches you.

Hold the inhalation, and God remains with you.

Exhale, and you approach God.

Hold the exhalation, and surrender to God.

🌿If one seeks to worship God, that desire for worship is adopted. In this way, the desire to worship God as being separate gets prolonged, and the greatness of God is not comprehended.

🌿Recognize God in his endless forms. He is the observer who sees, and he is the witness who is the knower.

🌿Keep the company of good people and be in the habit of listening to the narrations and explanations about God. This brings peace and some repose to the mind.

🌿Thus, there is power in all of the activity in the universe among those who exercise it. However, here it must be firmly established that everything is done only by the power and support of God.

🌿It is true that it is only God who is the doer of everything, and he has distributed himself in the many forms that appear on earth. Therefore, one should not become affected by the madness of the pride of ego.

🌿It is God who is the giver, and it is he who is the enjoyer. Like this, is the principle that is the functioning of everything. This should be seen now through investigation and thoughtfulness.

🌿The Supreme God, Parameshwar, is the doer of all. The thought about oneself as being an individual is illusory. Whatever the level of one's understanding is, one will act accordingly in the world.

🍃If you want to attain immortality, go beyond the pairs of opposites. Endure bravely heat and cold, pain and sorrow, loss and failure, censure and dishonour. You will attain equanimity of mind, peace and poise. If you are balanced in pleasure and pain, gain and loss, victory and defeat, sin will not touch thee; you will not be affected by the fruits of your actions.

🍃Keep the senses from attraction and repulsion. Attain mastery over the senses. Discipline the senses and the mind. You will not be affected now even if you move among sense-objects. He who is free from desires, cravings, attachment, egoism, and mine-ness, attains the Peace of the Eternal.

🍃Stand up. Have mastery over the senses. Be devoted to Atman. Destroy all doubts through Satsanga, study, enquiry, meditation and wisdom. Do actions without the idea of agency, without expectation of fruits, without attachment to the actions themselves, balanced in success and failure. You will not be bound by actions.

🍃Selfless actions will purify your heart and lead to the attainment of wisdom of the Self. Constantly do your duty without attachment. Your heart will be purified. You will attain immortal bliss.

🍃Knowledge of Atman burns all actions. There is no purifier in this world like Brahma-Jnana. Seeing, hearing, touching, smelling, eating, moving, speaking, grasping, etc., are actions of the senses. Atman is the silent witness. Thou art really the Atman or the Witness, Sakshi. Never forget this.

In enjoyment lies the fear of disease; in high lineage lies the fear of fall in status; in wealth lies the fear of the king [fear of getting it snatched]; in self-respect lies the fear of losing it; in strength lies the fear of enemy; in beauty lies the fear of old age; in scholarship lies the fear of debate; in virtue lies the fear of a scoundrel and in the body lies the fear of the lord of death. All things on earth are associated with fear. Dispassion alone is fearlessness.

🌿Consciousness and Matter🌿
🌻The Subtlest and the most Gross🌻

🍃At the start of creation, the hitherto unmanifested Spirit projected two natures—one, consciousness, and the other, matter. They are Its two vibratory expressions. Consciousness is a finer, and matter a grosser, vibration of the one transcendental Spirit. Consciousness is the vibration of Its subjective aspect, and matter is the vibration of Its objective aspect. Spirit, as Cosmic Consciousness, is potentially immanent in objective vibratory matter, and manifests Itself subjectively as the consciousness present in all forms of creation, reaching Its highest expression in the human mind with its countless ramifications of thoughts, feelings, will, and imagination. The difference between matter and Spirit is in the rate of vibration—a difference of degree, not of kind. This point may be better understood by the following example. Although all vibrations are qualitatively alike, vibrations from 16 to 20,000 cycles per second are gross enough to be audible to man’s sense of hearing, but vibrations below 16 or over 20,000 are generally inaudible. There is no essential difference between audible and inaudible vibrations, though a relative difference does exist. Through the power of maya, cosmic illusion, the Creator has caused the manifestations of matter to appear so distinct and specific that to the human mind they seem unrelated in any way to Spirit.

🍃Within the gross vibration of flesh is the fine vibration of the cosmic current, the life energy; and permeating both flesh and life energy is the most subtle vibration, that of consciousness. The vibrations of consciousness are so subtle that they cannot be detected by any material instrument; only consciousness can comprehend consciousness. Human beings are aware of the myriad vibrations of consciousness issuing from other human beings—expressed by word, act, look, gesture, silence, attitude, and so on. Each man is stamped with the vibratory signature of his own state of consciousness, and emanates a characteristic influence on persons and things. For example, a room in which a man lives is permeated with his thought vibrations. These may be distinctly felt by other persons if they possess the required degree of sensitivity. Man’s ego (his sense of I-ness; the distorted mortal reflection of the immortal soul) cognizes consciousness directly; and congnizes matter (the human body and all other objects in creation) indirectly, through mental processes and through sense perceptions. That is, the ego is always aware of possessing consciousness; but the ego is not aware of matter, even of the body it inhabits, until it takes thought about it. Thus a man in deep concentration on any subject is conscious of his mind but not of his body.

🌿That Intelligence, which incites the functions into the paths of virtue or vice, am I. All this universe, moveable and immovable, is from me; all things are preserved by me; all are absorbed into me [at the time of pralaya]; because there exists nothing but the spirit and I am that spirit – there exists nothing else.

🌿As in innumerable cups full of water, many reflections of the sun are seen, but the substance is the same; similarly individuals, like cups are innumerable, but the vivifying spirit, like the sun, is one.

🌿As in a dream the one spirit creates many objects by mere willing; but on awaking everything vanishes but the one [non-dual] spirit; so is this universe.

🌿As through illusion a rope appears like a snake, or a pearl-shell like silver; similarly, all this universe is superimposed in the Paramatma [the Supreme Spirit].

🌿As, when the knowledge of the rope is obtained, the erroneous notion of its being a snake does not remain; so, by the arising of the knowledge of self, vanishes this universe based on illusion.

🌿As, when the knowledge of the mother-of-pearl is obtained, the erroneous notion of its being silver does not remain; so, through the knowledge of spirit, the world always appears a delusion.

🥀The Yaksha asked — “What is the best of all laudable things? What is the most valuable of all his possessions? What is the best of all gains? And what is the best of all kinds of happiness?”

Yudhishthira answered — ”The best of all laudable things is skill; the best of all possessions is knowledge: the best of all gains is health: and contentment is the best of all kinds of happiness.”

🥀The Yaksha asked — “What man should be regarded as learned, and who should be called an atheist? Who also is to be called ignorant? What is called desire and what are the sources of desire? And what is envy?”

Yudhishthira answered — “He is to be
called learned who knoweth his duties. An atheist is he who is ignorant and so also he is ignorant who is an atheist. Desire is due to objects of possession, and envy is nothing else than grief of heart.”
