Rant moment but genuinely what the f*ck is the actual purpose of consuming AI content?

I see a lot of artists lose confidence bc the AI makes equally or better art then them and mostly talk about the quality or accuracy or and kindy hyperfocus on the visual end result aspect.
And i understand because it's a skill you spent years to perfect and now a computer can do it "better" in just a few minutes or seconds.
But that is not the only skill you have as an artist, and i would argue it's not even the most important one. Because before you even knew how to draw the cool stuff you imagined in your head, you had the cool stuff u imagined in ur head. Like that's what drives people to create, that capacity to see and experience things in your own unique way and the will to then use that and turn it into your own creation to share the experience.
What kind of experiences does AI communicate to us? Nothing. It hasn't lived through anything, it didn't see some beautiful detail in a landscape and thought "wow, i wanna capture this" it didn't come up with characters that reflect our views and experiences, none of the visual choices it makes is based on conscious decisions. AI can never truly make a finished piece of art, it's at best a tool for development/pre-production and optimizing the research and moodboard process in a pipeline, or iterating variations of a certain design.
And whoever is willing to use AI for actual, final production purposes is not someone artists want to work for in the first place. I really think most people will still want the human aspect and want the media and entertainment they consume to actually mean something and be able to connect with it knowing a bunch of super cool and talented people were what made it possible.

Rant over, I usually try to keep this channel just as a place to share and keep track of my work but yea this is an issue i find more and more frustrating so i felt i had to kinda speak out abt it

Very interesting article on the socio-ecological impact of large language training models like GPT-3

"Strubell et al. recently benchmarked model training and development costs in terms of dollars and estimated Co2 emissions. While the average human is responsible for an estimated 5t Co2 per year, the authors trained a Transformer (big) model with neural architecture search and estimated that the training procedure emitted 284t of Co2. Training a single BERT base model (without hyperparameter tuning) on GPUs was estimated to require as much energy as a trans-American flight"
Hhhh master enrolment season is upon us
