"i think part of the issue is people assuming that everyone MUST want to move upwards. like... its the next logical step for a person to want to move up the chain from worker to manager, to district manager, eventually owner.

but i always think of growth like plants.

aspens grow tall to reach the sun, for sure. but dandelions grow deep, understanding themselves fully so that if some misguided fool tries to uproot them they'll have to try damn hard. and then there's thyme and other creeping plants, which spread themselves out so much that if you try to chop a part of it off it roots wherever it can find dirt to root in

its okay not to have lofty dreams. you know what kind of plant you are better than anyone else"

Dear friends,

This is an out of the ordinary post, but it's about something critically important to several members of our furry community, friends and family.

All adult trans medical care is under attack in the US, and trans people are going to need your help.

The US House passed a bill, at an odd hour Thursday morning, which prohibits gender affirming care from being covered by Medicaid. It also removes it as care that must be covered under ACA (AKA Obama Care) plans. This would severely limit safe, affordable and legal access to HRT for many trans people. It is the next step they are taking, after multiple moves to force trans inmates off HRT and banning it from military service members and their families; they're now going after HRT for ordinary, adult civilians.

What is HRT, and why is this important?

Hormone Replacement Therapy was developed to help bring people (cis and trans), with a wide range of medical conditions, into a healthy hormonal balance. People with bodies experiencing a hormonal imbalance are prone to mood swings, emotional instability, depression, brain fog, difficultly thinking and if prolonged, mental health decline. If one's hormones are significantly out of whack, it can also lead to physical, life threating conditions, like rapid osteoporosis.

To be clear, the vast majority of HRT meds are taken by cis people, and the lawmakers recognize this by saying that very same HRT meds, must be covered for all adults, except trans adults.

If this is allowed to stand, many trans people you may know, will struggle and suffer.

If a trans person can pay out of pocket, the costs to obtain HRT, legally right now, average roughly $1,000 per year. If one can't afford that, the cheaper alternatives are medically risky and for half the trans community (trans mascs), illegal. T is Schedule III.

What are things you could do to help?

One: If you're a US voter, know that the Senate has not yet passed the bill. There's still time to call your Senators and tell them to vote no on the budget reconciliation bill, until these anti-trans amendments are removed. Here's a number look up took and script if you need help doing so: https://5calls.org/issue/medicaid-cuts-budget-reconciliation/

Two: If this does get signed into law, trans people will need help obtaining and affording HRT to get through this cruel act. Talk to those you know for ways to help. Consider donating what you can to HRT access funds, and offer to assist those you know with help staying on HRT. https://www.pointofpride.org/hrt-access-fund

Three: Understand your trans friends and family are rightfully worried, and if this comes to pass, they will need your understanding and support.

Four: Spread the word. These actions are literally being taken in the dead of night, and kept out of public eye, so people are unaware of what's going on. Speak up. Tell others your friends and family are being harmed by this, for doing nothing wrong.

Five: Remember, we as a community need to stick together if we are going to get through this trying time. They've made it clear that the LGBT community are enemies, and that they will "keep gradually turning up the heat to boil the frog." We as furries need to band together and help our own. We are each other's allies, friends and family.

If you have an questions about the specifics of any of this, or what you can do, please feel free to ask.

Thank you,
Jax Neurocyon
