This might sound really fucking grim and mildly accelerationist, but I take some solace in knowing that megacorporations using AI for useless purposes is unsustainable, in that we physically won't be able to sustain it as we go into an era of peak oil and energy scarcity.
At least I can HOPE that electricity will be reallocated to areas of more important use.

At some point we're gonna have to realize that yeah, maybe AI might make SOME things more efficient, but the labor and resource use just isn't worth it, unless it's for stuff like the medical field. Sometimes faster isn't better.

Also, I'd argue you don't need to expose yourself at ALL to horrific images and videos to care about something.
I have not watched one video of gore, death, and destruction coming from Palestine. I will not do that to myself, I do not need to do that to myself. I don't need to in order to care about the situation. Reading the news and being a compassionate human being is all it took.
