Today's rant: Stop moralizing everything you consume
I'm taking this one from a literature point of view, because that's what I'm most familiar with. The number of people I know who get weird and judgy about books and "whether or not they should be read" because of "problematic" material is ridiculous. Yes, many fantastic books feature reprehensible characters. Yes, this even includesabusers, rapists and murderers . But those people, as awful as they are, exist and have stories to tell. You can learn a lot about the human condition from reading both the good and the bad. Take your purity culture elsewhere, let me have my fucked up little guys >:(

Honestly, I feel as though the main thesis for this entire channel is "the human condition is a very messy thing, and us leftists have to acknowledge that to make any progress"

SovereignCervine here, its storytime
I am currently on the 11th or 12th move of my life. Many of the places I have lived have been suburban hell or very isolated apartment complexes. Most of the time, these suburbs were very cookie-cutter, or highly manicured.
This past year was the first time (besides college) I officially moved away from home and lived in the city. I liked it, I lived in an old jank-ass apartment complex that was actually meant for people to walk around in, I could take the bus and train virtually anywhere. But it never quite felt permanent, and we did need a bit more space.
We just started our move to a rural-adjacent town, and we were lucky enough to find a house to rent in our budget that fits our needs.
And this neighborhood? Oh, its jank, it's a little dingy, and I love it because it feels like people actually LIVE here. I just walked down the street to a combo independent grocery store and Mexican restaurant. There's a church on the corner of my street. There's a bus stop two minutes away.
At this point, I am so happy to live in less "pretty" areas when it feels like normal people live in them.
Yeah, it's a more conservative town, yeah it's a "higher crime area" but I feel so much more comfortable here than in an endless stretch of cookie cutter suburban hell.
And none of my neighbors have manicured lawns.
