As in, there's no small portion of people who are willing to write off and scapegoat the suffering of the people who live in those zones by virtue of "they live in Regressive Suckland™️, they get what they deserve"

And also - I thought I was "bad at math" and "hated math" until I took statistics. I LOVE statistics. It really follows the same mentality as literary analysis.

Not to sound like a teacher but math can be fun if you let yourself think about it in less rigid ways.

And it doesn't have to be shit like calculus. You don't have to memorize your times table. Fractions and percentages are so useful for so many things, from understanding studies to baking.
