After 10 years of silence, Hunters Ground returns with “Mycelium.”
We wanted to create a record together that conveyed both the essence of this land, the primordial American continent, as well as our ongoing dissatisfaction, disillusionment and aggression toward a modern world in which we have never felt truly at home.
The tracks unfold an interconnected narrative - the mythic story of humanity from its violent primeval origin, to the stark, consumerist horror of the modern dystopia and beyond.
Alongside this are lyrical interruptions and influences from the fungal element the album takes its name from - the potent and dreadful spirit that allows its student to travel through time and space itself.
From the start of the album, “Threshold,” we wanted to bring people into our world -
Appalachia:
The intense green and the thick nighttime air rife with the sound of cicada and wildlife…wonderful and awful, both nurturing rainforest and ancient devil.
The end of the album, “Still,” is a slow-building monument to the saprophytic process, the fear and wonder and awe expressed in rising and falling slabs of heaviness and furious blasting.
The entire album of “MYCELIUM” can be considered one long track - interludes call back to earlier parts of the record, field recordings of woodland and ritual interwoven with our own brand of melancholy yet violent black metal.
We’ve worked hard to make music that we hope takes you on a journey somewhere.
CD, vinyl, patches and tees will be available for order in one week.
