When this happens, you can always mute a chat without leaving it. This way, you can check it on your own terms instead of getting a ping for every new message.

To create one of these, go to Settings or a Chat Info page, click Edit > click the Profile Picture > select Sticker or Emoji. To do this, long-press on a picture you have sent. You can also select who can add a link to your account when forwarding messages, who can call you, and who can add you in groups.
