LineageOS 17.1 official support come to an end, first generation Pixel devices and other devices no longer receive update
Gerrit Review
LineageOS seems to be the only ROM out there to maintain two recent Android version officially at the same time, which means it manage to extend support for over 100 Android devices out there. Google Pixel and Pixel XL are being one of the prime example, but sadly, as LineageOS is continuing to go forward, ready to ship Android 12 official build, unfortunately these two devices will no longer receive weekly update from LineageOS anymore.
It isn't just these two Google devices, other devices from various manufacturers also had been unsupported, which is sad to see. There are a total of 36 devices being dropped form the official roaster.
Anyway, LineageOS 19.0, I am personally excited to see when it's finish developed, currently the team are still experimenting with it and slowly adding back the customisations they used to offer.

📁 LineageOS 17.1 Official Build Archive for Pixel & Pixel XL
As you guys know, LineageOS 17.1 official support has come to an end. Below the post are the last available official build & recovery for the Google Pixel & Pixel XL.
These builds won't be available on the official server after a few weeks later, so they are uploaded over here for archiving purposes. These will also later get uploaded over to OneDrive for a faster download environment.
Besides, someone else also did a whole backup of every device that has official LineageOS 17.1 support. If you own other devices and want to get those builds at a later date, that's where you can get it, but server speed is a little slow, so it's better that you backup it right now if you think that you need it later.

....so is this the end of pixel 1?
on the rom side:
- pixel experience has stopped building 11
- lineageos has stopped builds of 10
- there's a build once in a while by nacho but who's gonna update android 11 source when 12l and 13 are around the corner
- sadly there's no recent progress on the android 11 device trees - but its fine with volte being the only thing not working
- no progress on android 12 as well, the kernel version is old and its gonna take a lot of time and effort, what pixelboot does not have currently (more on that later)
- we always have gsis but with our old vndk version that's not going to be helpful especially since ril doesnt work on them
the rom links could be gone soon - but at least we have a backup of some of them
i cannot say anything in pixelboots name, but its fair to assume that his secret project is on hold - i know deeply about his life and it is really busy with him having school, personal life, pixel 4/4xl/4a/2/2xl and more on his mind.
most of us have already moved on to newer, better devices as these six year old devices aren't as good as they used to be;
- the battery is weak or expanding because of wear and tear
- audio ic and ufs chips are failing
- the performance isn't as good as it used to be
or maybe just simple want to upgrade for the latest and greatest. whatever the reason is, i just wanted to say thanks for the great times we had together on this chat. i met a lot of amazing people here with this community and want to wish them and everybody else the best in the future.
i really wish this phone had a revival - a second life, as it doesn't deserve to die in this sad way, but i don't know what would have to happen for this to be a thing. there's a glimpse of light as there's news about ubports people doing stuff for our devices, but what about the android side?
i really don't want this to end on a sad note. let's think of the devs that made this device better in some way:
gabriel howard, shagbag913, kingbri, lunarixus, electimon, razorloves, intervigil, spezi77, dees_troy, althaf, franco, flar2, freak07, wonderloo, asineth and my friends andrzej, nacho, pixelboot, waseem, yagya and more that i've missed

LineageOS 17.1 for Pixel XL 1 Year+ Review
When I first get to unlock my Verizon Pixel XL bootloader during the exploit time (July 15, 2020), I am so excited that I can escape the "confined space." After that, I asked many peoples' opinion about what ROM to use, and most of them recommend feature-packed ROM, but after several days of testing, I choose to stay on LineageOS 17.1.
Sure, it doesn't offered many features, but all of them are working and you can hardly find any issues with those features. It also already offered some features which are only introduced by Google on Android 12, like the Privacy Dashboard and Privacy Indicators. For your information, you can get extra features via modules if you want to, but there's something in this ROM which is irreplaceable with a module, the OTA update.
Pixel devices offered Seamless Updates support, allowing the update to install in the background, and the ROM make use of this feature. Next part is where most ROMs failed to achieve, keeping the root after updating it. This feature, is the main reason why I kept using it, because it's irreplaceable, not even in stock ROM. With this feature, I haven't even boot to the recovery mode for months already.
I have been daily driving the ROM for a total of 1 years and 7 months exactly, first flashed it back in July 17, 2020. I have also updated (aka dirty flash) multiple times on the ROM already, till now everything is just working fine as usual, no random error popping out, and this is what I want from a custom ROM. Too bad that I can no longer daily drive the phone as the battery is just too terrible and I can hardly get anyone to replace the battery in my area.
That's why LineageOS continue to catch media attention while the others rarely can. They support and extend update for over 100 Android devices out there officially (200+ before 17.1 dropped) even with strict requirements, I don't think any other ROMs are even near to that number. Also, some phones out there shipped with LineageOS out of the box, which proved they are mostly capable at what a stock OS can do.
Overall, LineageOS is still going strong till today. Although they may be slow at updating their Android base, don't offer many fancy features, but they never give up, they continued to develop and support ton of devices every single day. Lastly, I want to say: "Good things are worth waiting."

LineageOS 17.1 for Pixel & Pixel XL will continue to be maintain unofficially
XDA Thread
Kind of a good news you can say, razorloves, the maintainer of LineageOS for Google Pixel & Pixel XL, has announced that he will be continue to maintain LineageOS 17.1 for both devices.
The core members earlier has decided to end official support for LineageOS 17.1, as they will be continue moving forward to support LineageOS 19.0 officially. This means both first generation Pixel devices are being dropped from the official roaster, will no longer receive weekly update as usual.
The maintainer has explained why both devices aren't eligible for LineageOS 18.1 yet, he said there are two major issues which blocked the route for getting the official tag. First is that IMS isn't working properly, VoLTE being the prime example, as well as video calling... you name it. Another issue is "ok/hey google" isn't working (I am not sure whether he tested it out the correct way or not but the Google app need to be a system app in order to have it working).
Anyway at the end of the post, he had written that he will be continuing to release unofficial 17.1 builds for the device, for now he hasn't release any build yet. By the way, if you had like to use 18.1, do check out @npjohnson's build which will be posted on this channel too (here's the latest one at the time of writing).

Changelog:
• February 2022 Security Patch
• Added kernel patch to pass SafetyNet by default
Notes:
• To update from official 17.1 to my unofficial 17.1:
1. Go into recovery and install/sideload the rom zip.
-Note: when you do this you will see a prompt on the screen about the signature not matching. This is expected since my rom is not signed with same key as official. Select yes to continue.
2. After a couple minutes the install/sideload will finish. If you don't have gapps or magisk installed, you're done so tap "Reboot system now". Otherwise, continue to next step.
3. Tap "Advanced" then tap "Reboot to recovery".
4. Install/sideload the gapps zip and/or magisk zip. Then you're done so tap "Reboot system now".
