Pixel 1 + LineageOS: The end
Just an update regarding the current situation, you probably saw it by yourself, this channel has been flooded with LineageOS contents over the past year, and some people just advised me to stop running it, as the poll clearly suggested,

Originally this was meant to give other subscribers apart from Pixel 1 to learn something about LineageOS, as the announcement of the project excited many people, but not long after all people got bored of reading long texts and it's more like an obsolete post in the channel.

After listening to that advice many times over and over again, I decided to ultimately stop the whole project on its 1st year anniversary. Yeah, I could actually create a few more posts on some important changes but it isn't worth the time to do so, and no one really seems to be interested, so this wrote an ending for all these dramas.

If you are one of the people who came to follow this channel for LineageOS contents, thanks for being part of the journey. If anyone is willing to learn more about LineageOS, just tap the pinned message and check out all those posts any time you want. All the latest changes could be checked over at their download portal website and Gerrit if interested.

Going forward major changes about LineageOS with relation to Pixel devices will be posted on @PixelHubUpdates, so give that a follow in case if you haven't. Archival of LineageOS builds will continue as usual.

📁 LineageOS 16.0 Last Official Build Archive for Pixel & Pixel XL
While Pixel 1 continues to receive LineageOS 18.1 monthly updates, some might want to try out older LineageOS versions, which I did at least. The creation of this channel only happened at late 2020, and we manage to archive only Android 10 & 11 builds for the device.

Earlier while I was trying to find further archival LineageOS builds, I came across some websites which did the job, but none of the builds are for Pixel 1, or at least it's not downloadable. After a few weeks' time, it's available and I immediately went to archive it, and later scheduled it on this channel.

Actually, LineageOS supported the first generation of Pixel devices since version 15.1, I tried my best to search all the corners, but couldn't find an archival build for it. If anyone has one, I hope you could share it. That's all for now.

Pixel 1/XL Owners Yearly Check-Up
Yet another year and wanted to research how many users still actually use a Pixel or Pixel XL. It's been nearly seven and a half years since the Pixel released. Just a little pity this device could only run up to Android 11 while older devices from other communities are able to run Android 13.

Not going to write much over here, I mean literally nothing to write about this community due to lack of development, but just vote down below in the poll whether you are still using the device or not.

Smartphones these days… #Blog
So I have discussed this earlier in my LineageOS review post, which is the definition of phone. I still remember in the early days, I tried to replicate the feels & looks of a Pixel, trying to unlock exclusive Pixel features, then later lost interest in it and used it as a normal phone, and reduced the need of third-party software, all of these happened in just four years time.

Yeah, after all, we need a phone in order to communicate with others at first, the extra functionality isn't really that necessary, although it’s nice to have. After all, we can do the same thing, call, text, browse the Internet, listen to music, and watch videos… you name it. Why even bother with more features at this point? And also ask yourself, do you even use those special features frequently?

Let’s give an example over here. With the Pixel 7 series announced, there is this one new feature called Photo Unblur. Ok, that’s definitely cool but then let’s ask ourselves, are we going to frequently use that particular feature? I personally won’t just transfer all the old photos and just use that, also sometimes the old vibes are kind of better too.

After all, phones bring us a lot of convenience to our life. If you are in this community, you are basically a tech geek, knowing how to take advantage of your phone further, but yeah, depending on your preference and opinion, you either wanted something that has many features or something that is clean and usable. Your own phone, your own choice. Last words from me: “As long as the phone is usable, it’s fine.”

*If any of you are interested to post your opinions regarding any Google products or related topics such as smartphones or apps, just feel free to tell us in the group. A short paragraph will do, it doesn’t have to be very long. I don’t think anyone will still be interested in it but anyway, I personally have some stuff to share out, so this will be a thing for a while on this channel. Thanks for your understanding.

Google Pixel with LineageOS (ChatGPT) #Blog
Earlier someone suggested to use ChatGPT to write out things for me. It is a great tool for sure, but what it couldn't replace entirely is your writing styles, vibes & personal feelings. Sometimes mistakes could still happen, so eventually I have to go through the whole text and check whether there is anything wrong. I also like writing, so it's better for me to just write it out naturally like I used to do.

Anyway, text written below this paragraph is completed by ChatGPT itself. Overall it did a great job, except a very few minor mistakes here and there. The most obvious one will be overclocking CPU, which is definitely not part of the criteria in LineageOS at all. Main post starts right here:

Google Pixel devices are known for their clean, fast and user-friendly stock Android experience. However, some users prefer a more customisable and open-source option. That's where LineageOS comes in. LineageOS is a popular custom ROM that is based on the open-source Android operating system. It offers a range of features and customisations not found on the stock Android experience.

LineageOS was initially released as CyanogenMod and was one of the most popular custom ROMs available. After CyanogenMod was discontinued, the development team behind it continued to work on the project and released LineageOS, which has since become one of the most popular custom ROMs available.

Google Pixel devices are a great choice for LineageOS due to their good hardware and software support. The Google Pixel devices are known for their fast performance and great camera capabilities, and these features are further improved with the LineageOS custom ROM.

LineageOS for Google Pixel devices offers several enhancements and customisations compared to the stock Android experience. One of the main advantages of LineageOS is the ability to customise the look and feel of the device through custom themes and wallpapers. Users can also customise the status bar, navigation bar and quick settings tiles to their liking. Additionally, LineageOS offers several performance enhancements, such as the ability to overclock the CPU, which can result in a noticeable increase in performance.

Another advantage of LineageOS on Google Pixel devices is the inclusion of several privacy and security features. LineageOS includes the ability to encrypt the device, enable a password or pattern lock, and enable a secure lock screen. These features provide users with peace of mind, knowing that their personal data and information are protected.

Overall, LineageOS is a great option for Google Pixel users who want a more customisable and open-source experience. The enhancements and customisations available on LineageOS provide users with a unique and personalised experience, while still retaining the fast performance and great camera capabilities of the Google Pixel devices.

Google Pixel Camera Failure #Blog
You had probably heard of it earlier, but Pixel devices are known for hardware issues, especially in the camera department. It's lucky that we owned a first generation Pixel and it didn't seem to face any issue, but there's one critical exception over here I wanted to mention.

I am not sure where this issue started from, probably I had Android 11 installed earlier and if I reverted back, all these issues came out? After thinking for quite some time, this seems to be very likely, as in my usage, I didn't see such issue appearing on it, until I downgraded.

I can't say this will apply to everyone or what, that's just my luck. I am about to almost included it in my last post regarding Android 11 custom ROMs issues for our devices, but decided to remove it after trying out various ROMs and even older versions of the stock ROM itself, the issue seems to be happening everywhere and the logcat spams the same log for the light sensor and camera server error. Who's know this could be a fault on the Android 11 device tree, but I am really uncertain on it.

Reproducing it in a quick way will be turning on and off the camera server simultaneously, basically you just have to switch between modes multiple times, open gallery back and forward. After a while you will see there isn't anything in the viewfinder, and opening other apps which use the camera will not work too.

There is one temporary solution to get around it though, by using the Kill Camera app. Sometimes what's worse is that there's a chance the camera won't work until you reboot again. Anyway, all these are irritating and you might even lose the moment shot, which I did for quite a while now.

Actually after investigating for quite some time, it's found to be not about the software, but related to the hardware instead. Here's the stack trace and I hope someone could confirm whether is the case:

To be honest, there are many phones out there which will take good pictures too, but most of the reviews we viewed on the Internet are just those popular models that are available to be purchased in the US. Those are guaranteed to take good pictures, but we should learn to explore for more options too.

Random Reboot #Blog
I am not sure whether it's just my luck or what, but on Android 11 I said the device will slow down after two weeks uptime, so I downgraded to Android 10 to see if things get better, apparently it didn't. Later there's the camera failure issue, and now another one just decided to show up from nowhere, random reboot.

This random reboot ain't that worse, but it only happened after three weeks of uptime. Just to keep things clear, no modules are installed on the phone, and only one file manager app gets root access. I literally have no idea what's happening with it and it's my very first time experiencing such a problematic device despite using them in light and minimal usage conditions most of the time.

Pixel devices are supposed to be great, and even got recommended by the communities as the best overall phone multiple times, and before 2020, it is the only Android phone to receive three years of OS & security updates. It is good but seems like that's not the case for unsupported Pixel devices after all. The last OS update for those devices is just kind of irritating, though it might be usable. It's just like how Apple decided to slow down their devices over time and wanted to persuade their users to switch to a newer model, but due to their huge user base, some managed to spot the difference and reported it to the public, which got everyone's attention. Google is just being lucky over here you could say.

Anyway, the last stock OS update by Google for their Pixel devices has many hidden bugs, which means it's just hard to be discovered by most users. And yeah, the random reboot case over here could be considered as a hidden bug or probably not as I couldn't verify it, but since I don't make any heavy modifications to the system at all, this could be likely a device tree bug. Only if people are still daily driving or using it frequently, otherwise it's hard to verify it.

So yeah, after the random reboot incident, I went to try Android Pie and hope it doesn’t happen anymore. Unfortunately the camera failure happens everywhere I go. It made me feel like it’s a hardware issue but I don’t have the faintest idea on it. Hopefully no more worse issues appeared again.
