HOW MODI POSITIONED INDIA AS AMERICA'S EQUAL

One thing that Modi did so well during his American visit was not even once give the impression that India is in any way lesser than America.

A far cry from Manmohan Singh's cringeworthy "Indians love America" statement to Obama. Modi, instead cannoned through his American visit with all the confidence of a shopper with a limitless credit card in a Louis Vuitton store.

When speaking to the joint sesson of Congress, he listed India's achievents in the economy, women's empowerment, science and tech.

India, he said was a leader. When India got independance,, other countries were inspired to seek freedom. Today, other countries are following India's growth and are looking at how they can do the same.

When India grows, the world grows, said Modi, America must work with India to make the world a better place, he told the cheering Congressemen.

You could say that Modi was being cheeky, but he was backing his statements with data. For instance, aircraft orders from India would create a million jobs in 44 states. That's language the Congressmen understood. They were on their feet, applauding.

What the Americans rolled out for Modi was a red carpet, perhaps spun in gold. There were a number of jaw-dropping moments when the Americans went out of their way to make him feel welcome. But to me, the lasting image is the president and the first lady, flanking Modi, holding his hands as they entered the White House. That was real respect. Nothing fake about it.

I am a very emotional person.

My emotions were on display yesterday when I saw Narendra Modi’s speech & other proceedings. I literally had tears in my eyes. Those were the tears of happiness, joy & pride.

It is not that Modi is the first PM who has visited US or has addressed their parliament for the first time. But the following activities were beyond my expectations:

The super power making serious attempts to please India. They did not have to fly a large poster of Narendra Modi & Joy Biden over new York using a plane. They did it.

They did not have to display our national flag on their monuments or attractions such as waterfalls however they chose to do it.

There was a protocol that MPs shouldn’t be shaking hands with PM untill he himself comes forward however MPs did not care about protocol.

They looked extremely thrilled meeting Modi Ji. Some of them literally stretched their bodies to reach the hands of Modi Ji.
Some of their MPs stood in queue to take the autographs of our PM.

They literally stood in queue & came one after other.
Inspite of so many cameras being around, some of their politicians asked Narendra Modi for a selfie on their phones, this was again a breach of protocol but they did not care.

They literally held Narendra Modi as if he was Sachin Tendulkar & they were his cricket fans.

The American lady who sang the national anthem on stage, touched the feet of Narendra Modi. It was such an amazing gesture for her to give respect to Narendra Modi as per Indian traditions.

There were Modi Modi chants in parliament, some of which were from Americans.

There was so much of laughter. Narendra Modi cracked jokes, staying in full control of what he was supposed to say.

Exchange of gifts from Modi to Biden & his wife & vice versa had so much of warmth in it. It was unprecedented.

Unlike all previous occasions, this time US itself said that they aren’t going to lecture India on human rights. They knew that India can respond without mincing words.

I feel extremely proud to be the citizen of the country which is today the focus of the world. From US parliament, Modi told the world that Indian has moved from 10th spot in GDP to 5th spot between Modi’s two visits to US & will soon be the third largest economy. This is the pace at which India is growing.

World listens when India speaks :


We are sort of financing Russia (by challenging US sanctions & buying Oil & Gas) as it fights America & its allies but US is Pleasing our Prime Minister. We aren’t standing with America on this crucial issue.

Long live Modi Ji. You have made us proud. Modi is one of us.
