🇧🇷⚖️👮⛓ 🇧🇷 — The Federal Police arrested five people this Tuesday (19)—including military personnel with Special Forces training, known as "black berets"—for allegedly planning a coup d'état following the 2022 presidential election

☠️ According to the investigations leading to Operation Countercoup, the group intended to assassinate then-President-elect Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT), Vice President Geraldo Alckmin (PSB), and Supreme Federal Court (STF) Justice Alexandre de Moraes using irreversible poisons.

🪖 Those arrested include four Army personnel linked to the "black berets": retired General Mario Fernandes, Lieutenant Colonel Helio Ferreira Lima, Major Rodrigo Bezerra Azevedo, and Major Rafael Martins de Oliveira. Federal Police officer Wladimir Matos Soares was also detained during the operation. The Army stated that it "does not comment on ongoing proceedings," while the Federal Police declined to comment on the arrest of their agent.

⛓ In addition to the five arrest warrants, three search and seizure warrants and 15 precautionary measures were executed in the states of Rio de Janeiro, Goiás, Amazonas, and the Federal District. These actions were authorized by Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes.

🌐 Some of the arrested military personnel were reportedly involved in the security of world leaders attending the G20 summit in Rio de Janeiro.

🇧🇷 The petition authorizing the operation, released mid-morning, also suggests a possible connection between Jair Bolsonaro, the events of January 8, 2023, and the plans to assassinate Lula, Alckmin, and Moraes, including the use of heavy weaponry and even poisoning.
